About Me

Steve Rivington is a singer / songwriter based near Tenterden, Kent. He records and gigs under the name PASS THE CAT. PASS THE CAT were originally a trio consisting of Steve Riv - Guitars and vocals, Paul Newbury - Drums and percussion, Dave Shields - Bass guitar. They honed their unique cat sound in the back room of their local pub, The Hare & Hounds, in the small Nottinghamshire Market town of Warsop. They soon became the tightest, funkiest band in the county and produced several early demos which included songs such as Government Spies and The Deity Game. Keyboard player, Ash, was recruited to provide a more flexible and diverse sound. Steve moved to Rye in the mid 1980s and initially Dave and Paul would make the long journey south to play PASS THE CAT gigs. Vocalist Sharon Wood joined  the band along with Jim Corboy on percussion and sometimes Sharon's twin sister Trish also provided vocals. Eventually, Dave moved down to Rye to help ease the travel problem. Legendary drummer, Jack Peach, was recruited as a replacement for Paul Newbury - although Paul was always regarded as a " CAT " and still continued to make appearances for Steve until he tragically lost his arduous struggle with mental health problems in 2003. The band changed a few times in the early 1990s as Steve moved to Spain for a couple of years and on returning to England the guitarist Richard Blasco joined Steve and became an integral part of the new "CAT " sound. At the deeply sad passing of beloved Jack Peach, Steve turned to Liam Genockey as his regular drummer and due to Dave's commitment to other session work he also brought in Colin Gibson on bass as well as Nana Tsiboe on percussion, and, until his untimely death in Portugal, Kenny Craddock on Hammond and piano accordian. Today this is the most regular PASS THE CAT line up and the band behind the brilliant CD Album 442. PEACH - a tribute to, and featuring the wonderful Jack Peach, was the first CD offering. Steve has a huge collection of recordings made throughout the whole " CAT " lifespan. The current songlist is as diverse as any you are likely to find from any band, including songs by Bob Dylan, Ali Farka Toure, Bjork and many other songwriters from all over the world, which the band certainly 'claim' as part of their own unique sound, which could be referred to as acoustically polyrhythmic grooves, but the band know it as rhythm suction‘ The Cats still play around the south east, and a list of dates is available on their website www.passthecat.co.uk as well as contact details.to anybody anywhere hoho yo hello there gonna update this tho' u may not care thanks for checking us out see you somewhere
