How often do we take time out of our busy schedules to appreciate the simple things in life? How often do we do things without a purpose? When was the last time you went to the beach alone and did nothing but sit on a blanket, feeling the sun's rays on your bare skin, the warm sand squishing between each of your toes, or dive into the water, too cold for comfort but which makes you feel alive? When was the last time you looked across the surf and marveled at how each wave is unique, like water's fingerprints? When was the last time you looked out across the ocean, and saw not a boat nor a person, but only perhaps a dolphin's tail or a seal's head bobbing cheerfully in the water? When was the last time you took the time to appreciate the obvious differences and subtle similarities of sand and water? While so different in composition and texture, both are sturdy yet inconsistent. Both can support your full body weight, yet both are affected by the slightest breeze. Both are ever-changing yet always the same. How often do we take the time to notice all the beautiful colors of the shells and stones scattered across the sand? How often do we look at the sky just to watch a bird soar, high and free, to stand in awe of God's creations?In this crazy mixed up, built up world we all live in today, it's too easy to forget to take time out of our busy lives to appreciate the simple things. As the population continues to grow and the world becomes more civilized, it's important to appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds us, and to give God the glory he deserves for creating such a beautiful world.
