Upon first listening to Bekky's music, you would think you were listening to an experienced neo-soul singer
from some urban neighborhood in the states.
Nothing could be further (geographically, as well...) from the truth...
Rebecca Maeland (or Bekky, to family, friends and fans),
is a 23 year old singer/songwriter from a small rural town in Norway.
When asked about her style, voice, and influences,
and how the heck she could sing like that coming from....Norway, she responds,
"I have been singing all my life. My father is a singer and a musician and so is my big brother.
I wrote my first song in November 2006, and after that first song, I have been writing and writing...!
All kind of music inspire me, especially soul music from the 1950's.
But God, love, life, and my family is my biggest inspiration."Bekky has been in different singing group and choirs,
but this is her first venture as a solo artist. "There's more pressure because it is just me.
So I feel I have to always give my best; whether writing, recording or performing."
Her striving for perfection, drive, determination and discipline, is what sets this young, talented,
and creative artist aside from the rest in her age group. She was resourceful enough to have teamed up with fellow Norweigan producer,
Harry West, to complete the first 4 songs from her "soon-to-be-released/yet-to be-titled" debut CD.
She has also been corresponding with Grammy Nominated Producer (Nachito Herrera), Jake "J-Rod" Rodriguez,
of Urban Grooves Productions, based in Minneapolis. "We've had a few phone conversations about my style and direction,
and I am excited to work with Jake in Paris this year. We just have to work out the specifics...," she states.
"I can't wait to work with Bekky. She's a young, talented, creative, and dedicated artist, willing to work,
listen, and try new things....stretch the comfort zone, if you will. Together, we can make history." states RodriguezBekky's debut CD should be completed in 2008 and is currently exploring the options with all the label interest that she has been receiving.
She hopes to tour to support the release of the CD and is looking forward to getting back to the states, after visiting NYC for the Holidays.
"I love America, although it is very different from my country.
I think I could get used to living here, but it would take some time and I would need some family here with me."
Well Bekky, we would love to have you... Just keep on singing and it will happen soon enough.Myspace Layouts
