For the average grinder that phrase is a mantra: something to live by. So what's a grinder? Empire of the Sons is representative of every grinder out there: doing whatever needs to be done to accomplish one's goals. Sometimes those deeds are ill: but life teaches us to persevere and succeed or give up and die. A grinder would never allow that to happen. We would fight or die.
Every grinder has a story...the artists active within Empire of the Sons are trying to tell theirs their way: one uncensored bar and verse at a time. Are we glorifying what we talk about in verse? No. We talk about what we've seen, what we know, and what life has shown US. Because we tell it raw, with passion and in a format and language often misunderstood; we are negatively stereotyped. We'd like to see that change. Most of us have families, regular jobs, bills, and the same stress you have: give us respect for how hard we WORK on our music, and allow hip hop to do what it does: Unite.
Empire of the Sons is a coalition, or a group, of grinders, artists, DJs, bands, producers, fans, and other media industry representatives dedicated towards a common goal: U.N.I.T.Y. and education of our present and future youth. We hope to educate by example first; then take a more proactive approach as support for our cause grows.
What example are we trying to set? That during the darkest of times there is always light if one is not afraid to fail and persevere. Every day we believe in ourselves and keep trying brings us that much closer to our goals...no matter the setbacks. That is the message we want to bring forth: that despite all the things we've seen or talk about in our music we STILL get up and try to make a difference for ourselves and those we can. Good judgment comes from experience...experience comes from bad judgment.
At present time the Empire of the Sons is being spearheaded by DJ GoldNKiD and State2State with guidance and support from DJ Finesse. What started off as some friendly chat between a DJ and an artist has spawned a collection of artists and labels looking at multiple projects, shows, and possible sponsored tours!
