Als Oliver Ende der 80er Jahre damit begann, Musik zu machen, hatte er eigentlich nie irgendwelche Pläne zur Veröffentlichung seiner Songs im Hinterkopf. Er suchte lediglich nach einem Ventil für seine musikalischen und textlichen Ideen. Da diese stimmungsmäßig oft eher an Filmmusik als an typische Bandsongs erinnerten, gab ihm auch seine Zeit als Bassist in einer Post-Punk- und Indie-Band kaum Gelegenheit dazu, seine Visionen zu verwirklichen.
Auf diese Weise sammelte sich über Jahre hinweg mehr und mehr Material an, bis schließlich 1998/1999 das erste Demo entstand. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt ergab sich auch die Zusammenarbeit mit Birgit, die dem Projekt anfänglich nur Ihre Stimme lieh, schon bald aber auch eigene Songideen und Texte beisteuerte und zudem für das künstlerisch-visuelle Konzept verantwortlich zeichnet.
So kam es Ende 1999 zur offiziellen Bandgründung von Stillste Stund, zur Fertigstellung von „Ein Mensch, ein Ding, ein Traum" und nur kurze Zeit später (nach erfolgreichem Verkauf über die Kleinanzeigen verschiedener Print-Magazine) bereits zum Plattenvertrag bei Alice In.../Dark Dimensions.
Der Bandname Stillste Stund geht übrigens auf einen Ausspruch Friedrich Nietzsches zurück, in dem er seine tiefsten und ruhigsten (und damit auch seine furchtbarsten) Momente als die „stillste Stunde" bezeichnet...

When Oliver in the late 80ies started making music, he never had any plans about ever releasing any of his songs to the public. He was just looking for a means to put his musical and lyrical ideas into action. Since these reminded more of movie soundtracks than conventional band music, taking part as a bassist in a post punk and indie rock band did not give him much opportunity to realize his own visions.
Therefore, over the years more and more music material accumulated, until in 1998/1999 the first demo was about to be produced. At this time Oliver met and started working with Birgit, who at first only lend her voice to the project, but soon also contributed her own song ideas and lyrics and in addition took care of the visual conception of the project.
Finally, at the end of 1999 Stillte Stund was officially founded, a demo version of „Ein Mensch, ein Ding, ein Traum" was finished and only a short time later (after selling the demo via adds in fanzines) the band signed with Alice In... / Dark Dimensions.
By the way, the band's name Stillste Stund is old or lyrical German and means "Stillest Hour" or "Calmest Hour" and traces back to a quote by Friedrich Nietzsche, in which he refers to his deepest and calmest (and at the same time his most terrible) moments as the „Stillest Hour"...
