About Me

Born in Salvador/BA, Juliana always had a strong bond with her native country..s music. In 1990 started her professional carreer singing backup for Banda Beijo, led by singer Netinho. Participated in numerous studio sessions and live shows with Bahia..s top artists like Ivete Sangalo (Banda Eva), Pimenta Nativa, Cheiro de Amor and Ricardo Chaves.In 1994 moved to New York where she married music producer Tuta Aquino. Started a very successful solo career gaining the recognition of the local media while performing at important venues like Lincoln Center..s Demeroch Park, SOB..s, Town Hall and many others. The New York Times, Daily News and Time Out New York always gave Juliana very positive write-ups and attention.In 1998 Juliana was invited by Brazil..s legend Gilberto Gil to be part of his band to perform in Bahia..s carnaval on top of his own ..Trio Eletrônico... She shared the moving stage with brazilian icons such as Milton Nascimento, Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, Djavan, Lulu Santos, Elba Ramalho and Daniela Mercury.Juliana moved back to Brazil in the year 2000 where besides lending her versatile voice to jingles for the local advertisement industry, has performed at important corporate and private events.She is currently touring Brazil, promoting the DiscoBossa CD and is preparing a summer North America and European tour.

Influences: Brazilian singer Juliana Aquino released at the end of 2006 her first solo CD. DiscoBossa has 11 new interpretations of big hits of the “Disco” era, all with new and original Bossa Nova arrangements. Songs like “Love is in the air”, “I will survive” and “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood, which was picked to be one of the musical themes of “Páginas da Vida”, Brazil’s Globo Networks’ highest rated prime time soap opera, are amongst many other hits that make up this delightful CD.“DiscoBossa” has had the contribution of the elite of brazilian musicians. Internationally renowned artists like Leo Gandelman, Wilson Simoninha, Torcuato Mariano, Celso Fonseca, Márcio Montarroyos and Banda Black Rio’s William Magalhães have either played, arranged or co-produced tracks on the CD that also contains 2 bonus tracks remixed by Felipe Venancio and Memê, the top house DJs in Brazil.It’s a pioneer project coming out of Brazil.
