Five Sisters – One Sound
Natural, dynamic and emotional! The Van Dooren Sisters - Naomi, Esther, Lizzy, Miriam and Debby! They are based in Munich, Germany and have just released their debut album “Share Eternity†in September 2006. As a group their modern and fresh vocals have brought forth their very own unique sound!
Their love for music and the joy in creative expression has always been part of everyday life for the Van Dooren Sisters. They have a mixed cultural background. Their father Thomas, from Germany, was a musician and pastor. He was also responsible for the German song translations of the British, Christian songwriter, Graham Kendrick. Their mother Kristine, from California, was a photographer and is Manager to the girls. They were former hippies in the California scene in the 70’s and lived in a teepee where the first daughter, Naomi, was born. Thomas and Kristine experienced their conversion to Christianity during this time of the “Jesus People†movement and then were sent out to Germany as Missionaries in 1975. God lead them to Munich where they founded a church together with a team of Americans. This is where the other four daughters were born and raised. The full story has just been released in a dramatic autobiography in Germany this year.
The Van Dooren Sisters grew up singing alongside their parents at various church events in Europe. As young adults they pursued professional studies and work within the Entertainment Industry. Their individual voices have graced various Christian albums, as well as singing “voice overs†for German soundtracks to beloved children films like The Little Mermaid and the Prince of Egypt. Not long after their father passed away in 1999, they got back together in 2001 to form the official group, the "Van Dooren Sisters". They like to describe their sound as Pop, with a touch of R’n’B / Soul. Some songs are written completely by one sister, others are team work. The youngest sister, Debby (age 20), does the vocal and music arrangements. Although they grew up in Germany, their mother tongue is English, which is why they write most songs in English.
