BLOW UP started with a detonation at the opening of the legendary vienniese Soul Sugar Club in the "camera" disco, neubaugasse 2 1070, vienna on the third of september 2006. initially being a spontaneous summoning of great austrian musicians to play some of the rare soul/funk & disco tunes "just for fun" that would only be found at an exquisite club, it soon turned out that this concept had a lot more potential than just being a "one shot-wonder".the idea was brought to life by the guitarist, songwriter and dj "kakadu" (highhat rec./club pressure), who took the long anticipated chance of finally performing the tunes himself he would usually spin on the turntables. together with one of austrias top-top young soul singers, daniela hrenek, the tracks were carefully selected from his record collection with two aims in mind: only driving tunes with a high-energy level and dynamic arrangement and on the other side true heartache drama but no kitsch or cheesy harmonies that would destroy the tension in some way. being a bit discontent with the way such music is generally played, they knew the crucial point about interpreting it: it`s got to have the - you guess right - SOUL!
playing such a music tone-to-tone correctly is one thing, but nothing if the ecstatic joy and pain are not there. so at last they fulfilled their own desire for rare funk and soul not only craftfully performed, but most of all with the same attitude and euphoria as then in order to bring back the archaic spirit and raw but always aesthetic style of this 60s and 70s underground black music.
finally the two weeks preparation resulted in a furious premiere success and a hell of a party, which made it clear to everyone that this project will continue to fill the gap in the range of today`s live music. Meanwhile, the band has played at most of Vienna`s hottest locations in only a short amount of time: from the Rote Bar Volkstheater, Salon Leopold, Mezzanin, Naschmarkt Deli to Joe Zawinul`s BIRDLAND!
The secret of the concept lies in the majority of rare tracks you won`t hear anywhere else played live spiced up with some all-time classics mostly played in alternate versions. and inevitably now their first own songs are being worked on at last, displaying already a genuine style that dares to mix both modern funk breaks recklessly with 60s soul - because why not have it all, if you can? overall, this blend of great tunes is guaranteed to bring you a timeless experience that will never die because this is part of the universal code written down in every human`s heart. in other words:
