REVIEWS:
"Kill the Fall/Hellephant -Preying on Giants CD These bands both play heavy mid-tempo punk, with trudging slow bass lines and occasionally metallic lead guitar licks. Both bands feature aggressive screamed vocals, and compliment one another nicely. It's definitely a solid split recommended for fans of the heavier strains of hardcore."
-(AE) PUNK PLANET
"I'm a sucker for DANZIG, especially if you mix that up with rocking FU MANCHU/KYUSS jams which is pretty much what I'm hearing from KILL THE FALL, but these guys still show their punk rock chops so we're not totally spinning into the stoner rock stratosphere. Their half fucking rocks."

Split: Kill The Fall/Hellaphant-split CD
KTF really remind me of a more-garagy Hookers, with their lo-fi style getting pounded by straight rock n roll guitars. Hellaphant go more for a more drum-driven sound, with an almost Unbroken-sound to them.
Slug And Lettuce
Kill The Fall: Kinda spoken/drooping yell of non-croon Danzig (it's a Jersey thing) over rolling stoner riffs and we're off to a good start. Get Kill The Fall on the mp3 CD, cuz if properly encouraged, they might get it together and go the distance. Maybe "Sorrid." Sounds like a good drinking song to me.

KILL THE FALL/HELLEPHANT:
Split: CD
Kill The Fall: Sounds like they’re trying really hard to be a stoner rock band, but end up sounding like a bad mid-tempo punk band with too many rock albums in their collection. Hellephant: Markedly better than Kill The Fall, but their mid-tempo hardcore/rock hybrid wasn’t all that much more interesting. –Jimmy Alvarado

Supreme Commander/Alive At Last
Split CD
Bishop19 Records
by: Jeff Karbow (SICZINE.COM)
When I first received this package I was stoked for two completely different reasons, first Supreme Commander is the shit and second Mr. John Martin who has done some writing for SicZine, put out the record.
In case you haven't already heard of them, Supreme Commander from Washington, DC plays straight forward hardcore with an old school spirit. Up to this point they have released a 7" on A389 Records titled "120 Years In Business" as well as a split 7" with Two Man Advantage.
Alive At Last who hail from Ocean County, NJ play old school melodic hardcore, and do it well I might add. Thus far, they have only released a demo, but considering they've only been a functioning unit since 2005, that ain't too fucking bad. Also worthy of mentioning, Rob, the bassist from Heartfelt Discord is their ranks.
The split features 12 tracks with each band contributing 6 each. Supreme Commander opens things up with my favorite track that they've contributed, "Spiraling Down", which is an awesome song about watching someone you know just keeps fucking their life up. The following track, "Antihero" sounds like it could've been pulled straight out of 88', especially with the tone of the recording. Amazing. The third track, "Blender" is short and succinct song about raising your glass to last call. Going right down the line, "The Damage Done" is another short jam about pushing someone that is close to you away. The one thing that stood out to me about this track was the change in the vocalist's delivery, going from more of a shout to something a little more harsh, either way the dude's voice kills it. The final original jam, "Your Turn" is a raucous jam about politicians who will finally get bit in the ass by the hand of karma. Capping off their side is a cover of Gorilla Biscuits' "New Direction". And seriously this singer has one of the best voices in modern day hardcore to emulate CIV. Definitely one of the highlights of the album for me.
Alive At Last bring it on their side of their split. I wish I would've heard of these dudes sooner, some of the better melodic hardcore I've encountered over the years. They start their side off with "Days Gone By", a song about getting off your ass to make things happen. Next up, "Snake Eyes VS. Storm Shadow" is a raging anthem about the prejudices that people have for reasons they can't even see. One of the songs I enjoyed immensely is "Hold That Thought". It's an honest and sincere song about knowing that you fucked up a great friendship and trying to regain that friendship. "Nonsense of Pride" is about how the government uses national pride to get the common American to fight in an unjust war. The fifth track, "Beyond Our Eyes" is essentially about someone who just likes to run their mouth and if they don't watch it, it'll get the best of them. The final track, "Fun At Recess" is one of the songs I can really connect with. The song talks about how much different times were when you were younger and hanging out with your boys, you went from playing Nintendo and watching the Ninja Turtles to driving around smoking butts.
Supreme Commander recorded each half of their split in separate studios, you'd think that would compromise the sound of their side but nope, everything sounds pretty fucking consistent. The overall tone of their mix hits the nail on the head. The throbbing bass tone really helps give the mix an old school feel. The guitar tone is placed nicely against the guitar and puts to use a wonderful overdrive. Except for the tone on the snare, which lacked pop, everything sounds crisp. As for Alive At Last their side sounds solid as hell, it doesn't hurt when Bill Henderson from Azimuth masters your tracks.
Well put together layout, the front cover has a good split theme with the road sign with each band going in a different direction. Considering this is only the second album released by this label, it's completely understandable to make the booklet a simple two page deal. The only real complaint I can muster up is that the lyrics are a little tricky to read with the type of background used but it isn't that bad, so I can deal.
Rating: 4/5
Songs Worthy of Replay: (SC) Your Turn and Spiraling Down (AAL) Fun At Recess and Hold That Thought
Synopsis Always good to see new labels popping up to help support the hardcore scene and this is a great record to help get your label off the ground. I've known and enjoyed Supreme Commander in the past and it's no different this time around. Alive At Last is a band that's new to me, and I'm glad for being turned on to them, very well done melodic hardcore with stellar lyrics.
ALIVE AT LAST/SUPREME COMMANDER - split CD
Both of these bands totally bring me back to when I was living on the East Coast in the late '80s and early '90s. Since fast hardcore with a punk attitude was practically extinct, at least within the scene that I knew, we were all into the metallic type of stuff with lyrics that leaned more towards the, "You need to stand up for who you are" attitude than towards the political. The music was pretty good, especially when you went to shows and the crowd would go crazy, but most of the stuff hasn't held up too well over time. Washington, DC's SUPREME COMMANDER fully captures the sound and feeling of that time with six tracks that are reminiscent of TOKEN ENTRY or even the STRAW DOGS. My favorite track here is "Your Turn," which predicts the karmic revenge coming to them when the people rise up. ALIVE AT LAST from New Jersey has a bit more of the late-'80s melodic hardcore style with a metallic persuasion, like maybe BATTERY or BANE, but maybe not as fast. While listening to this I keep thinking of those Dan O'Mahoney bands like CARRY NATION or 411 - you know, the ones that were cool, but not as good as NO FOR AN ANSWER. As expected, the lyrics pretty much reside along the personal, but the music is full of good power chord breakdowns and shouted choruses. Worth checking out if you dig this style of hardcore. (BG)

V/A - Supreme Commander / Alive At Last split
Here's a split album from two bands I hadn't heard of released on a label I had never heard of. But the bio sheet said it came recommended for fans of Gorilla Biscuits, Sick Of It All, Dag Nasty and Kid Dynamite so that got my curiosity going.
And so I started listening to the first six songs which came courtesy of Washington DC's Supreme Commander. And boom, I went back in time to the late 80ies. Hell, they even cover Gorilla Biscuits' "New Direction" and do a pretty good job of it!
Next up is New Jersey's Alive At Last who like to keep things old school as well. Think Sick Of It All with a little bit of Comeback Kid and you've got a good idea of what these guys are about. Oh, little bit of trivia... one of the dudes from Heartfelt Discord plays in the band.
Anyway, this split was a pleasant surprise and if you're into old school hardcore it certainly wouldn't hurt you to pick this one up!

SUPREME COMMANDER / ALIVE AT LAST split CD Bishop19
Wow, Washington DC’s Supreme Commander sound exactly like our own Intent; the same energetic hardcore with a singer who even sounds just like Stewie. It really is uncanny, but also ensures that I like them; in fact the only slight criticism I’d have of the 6 tracks here would be that their cover of Gorilla Biscuits’ “New Direction†sounds little rushed, but that really is nit-picking and I should imagine it sounds really great live. Alive At Last, from New Jersey, aren’t too different, but with their riff heavy songs they are more like Sick Of It All; not totally my sort of thing, but the songs have a good fast pace to them and that saves the day as far as I’m concerned. This is a pretty good split, and a good way to check out some new bands; I do wish the lyrics were easier to read though.
