Pow Wow music feeds my soul!

About Me

Women’s Drum Group Rocks!Three years work went into the production of our debut CD, "Daughters of the Earth," with all original songs in Cherokee and English. Feather River Singers is a women’s Northern style pow wow drum - exciting energy, soothing beat, and sweet style. "Daughters of the Earth" by Feather River Singers breaks into new territory in Native music. Inspired by The Mankillers, Walela and Ulali, we bring melody and a Cherokee touch to our pow wow music. Recorded in a natural outdoor setting, the sounds of birds and nature were incorporated into the songs."Mother Earth" seeks healing for the Earth; the pow wow songs include a sneak-up, fancy shawl, round dance, two-step and a tiny tot’s song. "Women Warriors of the 507th" honors Jessica Lynch, Shoshana Johnson and Lori Piestewa, and is dedicated to all military personnel and their families. Prentice Robinson, Cherokee linguist from Tulsa, Oklahoma, was project language consultant. Members of the group include Barbara Warren, Kathleen Shain, Gwen Cochran, Anna Eyre and Pam Ames.Songs from the CD have been featured on KZFR 90.1 FM "Native Voices" in Chico, CA and KVMR 89.5 in Nevada City, as well as by KRZA 88.7 FM in Alamosa Colorado and KGHR 91.5 FM in Tuba City AZ. On stage at the Miners Foundry, Nevada City, Feather Rivers Singers were broadcast live over KVMR FM 89.5 for Indigenous Peoples Day Celebrations for the past three years. They are also honored to be asked to sing at the Oroville Salmon Ceremony celebrations for the past two years. The resurgence of and reestablishment of native ceremony and celebrations is seen as an important part of healing and balance with nature. As Feather River Singers are mostly of Cherokee descent, living on the ancestral lands of the Maidu peoples, they are grateful to be included in these events and ceremonies.
