My name is James Allan (www.jamesallan.org) and I am the lead guitar player for the power metal band "Children of the New Sun" (formally MONOLITH) based out of upstate New York. I grew up listening to fusion/prog and other stuff like Jeff Beck, Dixie Dregs, Queen, ELP, Jean Luc Ponty (Allan Holdsworth and Jamie Glaser), King Crimson, YES, Return to Forever, but my favorite prog band of all time would have to be Gentle Giant...the most amazing musicianship of any prog band of the time. I now still listen to the forementioned bands but also King's X, Dream Theater, Spocks Beard, Symphony X, Vicious Rumors, Mastadon, Alter Bridge, Judas Priest, Queensryche, Satriani, Vai, Muse, Phish, Bach, and Mozart.My most direct guitar influences are Allan Holdsworth, George Lynch, Jeff Beck, Rick Derringer, Richie Blackmore-Deep Purple, Mark Tremonti, Doug Aldrich, Steve Morse, Yngwie Malmsteen, Eric Johnson, 805, Robert Malley, Mark McGee, Steve Vai, Billy Sheehan and TALAS, Ty Tabor, Jean Luc Ponty, Rob Marcello, Joe Satriani, Jake E. Lee.I've played with Ben King (Derringer, Fiona) Lee Roxx (Cyndi Lauper) Phil Naro (Billy Sheehan/Talas, Peter Cris, D:Drive, Lou Gram) The NINE with Chris G (TLC, Jermaine Stewart, Rick James) I worked as the guitarist for the late great Robert Goulet in Las Vegas for a year as well. That was a terrific experience in learning what entertainment was all about. Goulet was a master entertainer and amazing person who could laugh at himself while maintaining a persona bigger than life. I learned a lot from that man... and from the other great musicians in his band... Ray Gomez Jr. and David A'corso. It was family. Auditioned for Ozzy in '94 but Zach came back to the band at that time... and Vai was working on Ozzmosis when this was all going on but Zach ended up doing the tracks after all. I also worked as a session guitarist for MusicAmerica studios in Rochester, New York and was present for the recording of Metallica's "Kill'm All." I have stories so VH-1 call me! LOL... Avatar, PCI, Linden Oaks, S.I.R (NYC).I had the great pleasure to live in Europe (Italy) as an ex-patriot where I learned the meaning of life... nothing is more important than family and one's passion! Get rid of anyone in your life that wants to drag you down!At this time CotNS has completed our first CD release. It contains 11 songs which includes one short instrumental guitar piece. The Band consists of Peter Andrews (Vox), Steven Wright (Bass), Mychal Parus (Drums) and me, James Allan on guitar, keys and vox.We had hoped to have had the CD completed and packaged by October 1, 2007 but our drummer Mychal Parus had knee surgery and that put the project on hold for several months.Official release date is now October 9th 2008.
