What the funk, or was it rock ?

About Me

I started playing Bass-Guitar at age 16. I wanted to be a drummer but my dad wouldn´t let me as he thought it was to loud when practicing. Talent for drumming was in me, but has not been pushed. Somehow I didn´t pick the bass, it picked me. A friend offered me a Bass-Job at a local Metal-Band. They gave me a Hohner B2A Bass they had standing around and a Tape with the Songs. After a week we played some covers of DIO, Black-Sabbath, Deep-Purple and all that stuff. We had some gigs, but it never really went any further with the metal. Back in the chamber to practice and play along I found the Blues and somehow over that I came to soul and all the other styles that are more groove oriented with the bass not completely playing 8/8 lines. Came across some Jamiroquai and other Acid-Jazz that I tried to play along. That was good Lesson. Thx to Stuart Zender who was a big influence by that time while just playing along the J-Quai tracks and finding the right patterns and stuff. After few years of jammin with some friends we had this Funk-Band set up. Won some contests and played some festivals with our own Songs, no covers at all. It was a good time. The Band split because of several reasons. We reformed with new Drummer and new Singer made some new Material and we´re now about to do our first EP with all live recordings. I do lyrics and basic Ideas for our songs. I also play a bit Guitar and drums and do some homerecording from time to time, specially with my longtime favourite funky-chord strummer Olli. You may check his stuff on http://www.steelbender.de To make the inevitable money for staying alive I work in the IT-Industry. I´d appreciate any talk with you about funk, soul, acid-jazz, good Rock music, Jazz, Latin, Calypso, Drum and Bass and whatever you like to talk about.
