Greetings,
I am sending many good vibrations to all our friends and supporters. Big Moutain has been taking a much needed break from touring and recording. We are very excited about the future. The reggae scene continues to evolve and we eager to contribute what we can.
The music business being what it is can be a heavy load. We have learned a lot about how to maneuver through the maze of hype and commerciality. We have always intended on creating music that inspired people to look for the best in themselves. We hoped that our music gave strength to those that found themselves going through tough times. Deep down inside we wanted to keep to the reggae tradition of making music that criticized materialism and inspired spirituality and a feeling of oneness with all the people of the world. It is a idealistic dream but that is what got us into reggae music in the first place. We grew up admiring the many heroes in reggae that stuck to these principles and we wanted to keep that determination alive. Many mistakes were made but Jah has given us a New Day. And we are ready to see what the future has in store for Big Mountain and the reggae community in general.
Some say that reggae is going through tough times and that the message of One Love and Spiritual Revolution is not being respected. I believe that the world needs this message more than ever and we can't waste time focusing on the negative. There are people all over the world that are being turned on to reggae for the first time and they are going through the spiritual transformation that many of us went through many years ago. I see us (the reggae community) expecting too much sometimes. Things change and we can't expect reggae to be understood by all people in the same way. Reggae does not belong to anyone in general. Reggae is the people's music and we have to respect that people will take it in on their own level. Let us not be critical of others and let us not be critical of ourselves. Reggae has given us a tool to understand what is real and too sift through the bullshit.
I challenge all of us too be the spiritual ambassodors that we can be. Reggae has given us an insight to this world that includes culture, politics, religion and many other aspects. Don't let fear guide your way. Be strong and wise and everliving. Most importantly remember that reggae is about all. It is not about any one people or religion. It is about recognizing that people need to respect each other. For too long people have suffered because of the greed and arrogance of others. This Mother Earth, Mama Africa cannot be owned. She is the mother of all mankind and we need to respect all of her children. Dont forget who you are. Reggae music is not about abondoning any culture, it is about bringing new healthy habits into who you already are. I am a Chicano, an Irishman, a Catholic, a Native American, an African and many other people. It was Jah Rastafari that taught me to allow all of those aspects of myself to be at peace with each other.
Be looking out for Big Mountain, Jah willing, we na dun yet!
Rastafari Liveth Every Time!
Quino
