About Me

Woolly Mammoth has held its place at theatre’s leading edge. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Howard Shalwitz Woolly Mammoth is acknowledged as “WASHINGTON’S MOST DARING THEATRE COMPANY” (The New York Times) and as a regional and national leader in the development of new plays. Woolly Mammoth has gained this reputation by holding fast to its unique mission:
. . . to ignite an explosive engagement between theatre artists and the community by developing, producing and promoting new plays that explore the edges of theatrical style and human experience, and by implementing new ways to use the artistry of theatre to serve the people of Greater Washington, DC.

NEXT ON STAGE: "CURRENT NOBODY"
CURRENT NOBODY
By Melissa James Gibson
Directed by Daniel Aukin
October 29-November 25, 2007
About the Show: Riffing on Homer’s Odyssey, playwright Melissa James Gibson flip-flops genders to create a dazzling tale about the ultimate working mom. When photo-journalist Pen heads off to cover the war in Troy, stay-at-home dad Od struggles to maintain his fidelity and raise a child in his wife’s absence. As Pen’s journey extends from weeks to years, Od is forced into the public eye by a relentless trio of documentary filmmakers – while daughter Tel must grapple with the personal cost of her mother’s epic ambition. Following her off-Broadway successes with [sic] and Suitcase, Gibson brings to Woolly the world premiere of her most ambitious work to date.
Featuring company member Michael Willis with Jessica Dunton, Kathryn Falcone, Deb Gottesman, Christina Kirk, Jesse Lenat and Casie Platt
“First-rate production...EXTREMELY INVENTIVE” -Variety

Following last season’s hit Help Wanted, Josh Lefkowitz returns to juggle politics, poetry and love as he attempts to answer the question “What are you working on now?"

MEASURE FOR PLEASURE
May 26-June 29, 2008

I'd like to meet:

DC theatre fiends unafraid of a theatrical challenge. Playwrights, the path breaking kind. Innovators, risk-takers, explorers. Anyone who thinks theatre should constantly forge past stagnancy.
