Philipp Nykrin, born 1984 in Salzburg (Austria), began playing the violin at the age of 6, taking lessons at the „Musikum-Salzburg“. After primary school, he attended the „Musisches Gymnasium“ in Salzburg. Playing the Piano at the age of 10 and taking his first piano lessons at the age of 15 at the „Musikum“, he continued his studies at the „Anton-Bruckner-Privatuniversität Linz“, having piano-lessons with Christoph Cech and Martin Stepanik as well as violin-lessons with Andreas Schreiber. Additional workshops and lessons, among others, have been with Sam Yahel and Gary Dial.
Besides working with his own trio, Philipp Nykrin participates in various groups and projects. Collaborations, among others, are with Lylit, Hausmusik for Coulin, SK-Invitational and Mono&Nikitaman.
Philipp Nykrin has received the "Jahresstipendium der Salzburger Landesregierung für Musik 2006" and the "Hans-Koller-N.Y. SCHOLARSHIP 2007".
The PN-Trio participated in a support-program for young austrian musicians called "The New Austrian Sound of Music", initiated by the austrian ministry of foreign affairs. During this program, the trio performed in Germany, Greece (Festival Europe@Patras), China (NineGates Jazz Festival, Beijing), the West Bank (Austrian Culture Week, Betlehem), Portugal, Poland (International Piano Festival Kalisz), Slovakia, Ukraine (Odessa Jazz Carnival) and Serbia.
