About Me

there are things that say it all. wonder exists in the smallest details. i gravitate towards all things that bring hope. i'm a tempest in a teapot. leo. full of wonder and contradictions. hard to get to know, but a true blue friend for life. i love animals. i love flossing. i want to learn to paint. i want to learn everything, so i'm trying to figure out how to manage my time. i read harper's and mcsweeney's a lot. in my heart of hearts i would write for those publications. i don't really go out a lot, stay at home mostly. i'm a teacher. sometimes i'll get on my bike and ride to another city, even if it takes eight hours. i am actively trying to overcome a debilitating shark phobia. i can most likely beat you at pool.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: cassettesongs.com
Band Members: samantha jones, samantha jones, samantha jones. my initial idea was that i would play these songs with whomever and it would be this evolving band/project thing. and it's still kind of like that, so sometimes i'll play on my own, sometimes with just a few friends singing, or with various random instumentation.
Sounds Like: when i was a tyke, every afternoon for naptime my mother put me in a waterbed and put on a hank williams sr. album to get me to sleep. it was always the same record; we were pretty poor. she believes that recessive genes were passed on from my grandad to me... he played french horn at berkely school of music and she couldn't carry a note. as i grew up we got more records. before i could really talk i was singing along with janis joplin, billie holliday, grace slick, the beatles, roberta flack, bob dylan, and the monkees. some of my recent faves are mirah, joanna newsome, bonnie prince billy, iron and wine, the microphones, and the mountain goats. i'm sure all of these influences are woven into the songs i write, but i don't think it sounds like exactly anything in particular.
