Richard Weiss, a.k.a. Dj Dubbz, needs no introduction to Winnipeg’s underground scene. He has been actively involved in the scene since 1998 as a member of the original DiG crew. Inspired by Harry Chan, Lil’ Phil, and Mike “maz†Meyers, he decided to pursue the art form known as turntable djing in late 1999. By the spring of 2000, he was already making noise as one of Winnipeg’s premiere up and coming djs.Since then, dubbz’s ability to play numerous styles of electronic music (techno, trance, acid techno, house, hard dance, & breaks), along with his impecible taste in tunes, and the skillz to rock dance floors time and time again, has enabled him to attain residencies at numerous of the cities electronic club nights such as Ritual Fridays, Mixology, There, Eddie’s Garage, and DiG., He’s also done numerous radio shows on 101.5 fm here in Winnipeg, and has attained residency with Winnipeg’s 2 biggest “underground†production crews: Soundwave Entertainment and Crown Productions.
Dubbz’s first regular promoting gig started in 2001 when he ran ritual Fridays at the horse shoe with Lil’ Phil Tse. This was a weekly after-hours spot which drew over 350 people on a consistent basis. Since then, Richard has been involved with many projects, including, the playground, Mixology, many successful one offs at the Pyramid Cabaret, and, various projects at the avenue. In 2003 his “career†as a promoter went through the roof with the formation of Crown productions. Crown’s first show was Back to the Future on new years eve 03/04, and launched crown as a legend in to the minds of many of Winnipeg’s party goers
. Crown productions were behind some of Winnipeg’s most memorable shows as of late, including: Back 2 the Future 1, 2, &3, the legendary Evildead, Where the Wild Things Are, and Fantasia.
With the recent rebirth of Ritual Fridays, things are really looking up for Dubbz. as anyone who knows anything about Winnipeg’s underground scene, knows who Dubbz is...your every day average zionist, ex israeli military, right wing, jewish canadian dj/promoter, ex drug addict with a.d.d., who doesn't drink, or get high, instead, gets off on playing records and throwing massive parties, you know, normal shit.
