RSF : French synthesizer company named after Ruben &
Serge Fernandez, originating from Tarbes (south-west of France).
1972: it is at that time that they start to build small modules of sound traffics and discover the world of synthesizers with a Moog and decide to create their own synths.
In September 1975, they settle in Toulouse to finish their academic studies:
a licence in data processing (Cobol* programming language) for Ruben and Serge graduated in IUT of Electric Engineering.
*(Cobol language: created in 1959 by the Short Range Committee).
At the beginning, they produced custom modules for the request of buddies musicians :
the Series 11 Modular Synthesizers (similar to the ARP 2600) which will be born in 1976.
1976: the French guitarist VERTO (see album: krieg/volubilis) is one of the first users and takes part in the evolution of Series 11 but also in the design of the keyboard version of the Kobol.
Then after, they met Klaus Schulze who will make them discover the EMS synthi and from that moment they start the design and production of their new systems.
A company is created (a SARL) whose initials RSF are consisted of initial : "Ruben Serge Fernandez" and the production is done in a house : street Claire Cazelles in Toulouse.
About twenty modular systems are realised and some sometimes assembled in Samsonite suitcases and are marketed what represents approximately 300 modules.
A keyboard is also designed and of which a special portable model for Benoît Widemann (keyboard from the French group named MAGMA) and modified especially to also control its Minimoog. Benoît also take part for the development of all the synths of RSF.
1978: the KOBOL (keyboard version) appeared and the part of the external design is partly conceived by Klaus Blasquiz (singer of MAGMA).
