The Blue in Rhythm and Blues Indigo “I’m that blues in your right thigh, tryna be the funk in your left Who am I?” Indigo, Songstress and Poetin•di•go - The hue of that portion of the visible spectrum lying between blue and violet, evoked in the human observer by radiant energy …; a dark blue to grayish purple blue; A darker hued sister!I am Indigo... a born and bred Southern Gull hailing from Low Country South Carolina, who’s been singing, to let my mama tell it, “Since she was in the womb...”I love and actually prefer the energy you get from a room full of live, breathing, loving, people. Gimme a microphone and room full of people and I’m happy. I prefer to perform and feel the reciprocity that you get when the audiences are live. Open Mic. Spoken Word.Indigo, the poet was born in high school where I wrote my first play at 16 – autobiographic, of course and ater poetry…writing through much of college. I put the pen down until my second year in law school – inspired by life, love and heartbreak. I usta be afraid that when people heard my poetry that they would know too much about me…be all in my business… and then judge me. And then I realized that my struggles are EVERYBODY’S struggles. We’ve all been to the same place at one time or another. And so, if you ain been hurt, it’s coming; if you ain been happy, look forward… Zora Neal Hurston said, “The Dream of life is truth and then we act and do things accordingly.” (Their Eyes Were Watching God). My voice (poetic or musical) is my truth - accordingly, I share.....
