About Me

The Gilbert Switzer/Hold split 7-inch 'State Of Nature' may now be purchased online through Scratch Records !
Gilbert Switzer was formed in July 2004 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Gilbert Switzer is not so much a 'band', but a three-person punk rock carnival. This group loves to perform and evoke the childish insanity that we have all suppressed for too long. When Gilbert Switzer plays, they want they audience to play with them. Being at a Gilbert Switzer performance is like being at a surreal construction site; the band works to build a space where they and the audience can play together. The music itself is very minimal and aggressive punk rock. Most of the songs sound very different from each other, but Gilbert Switzer's distinctive personality comes across in all of them. Besides music, their influences include John Waters, Andy Warhol, perverse horror movies, and very bad television.Gilbert Switzer tries to have fun with the complete absurdity of the horrible and hilarious world we live in. We live in times that are begging to be celebrated and assaulted by the kind of trash Gilbert Switzer expels from their warped imaginations.
