I am a semi-professional biophile with no intention of stopping. I have, however, sworn off a few things because there's so little left of me these days. Oooh - cryptic!
Buster Keaton, but it's a little late for that, isn't it?
Other wonderful dead people include:
- Jim Henson
- Cab Calloway
- Douglas Adams
- George Harrison (now you know my answer to the ever-popular 'favourite Beatle' question)
- Butterfly McQueen
- Graham Chapman
- J. R. R. Tolkein
- André The Giant
- DeForest Kelley
- James Doohan (Yes, I'm a nerd. Shut up.)
(There's a lot more, but those are the first ten I could think of that I wish I'd met. I have a thing about cool dead people, I guess.)
Yes, please. Whaddaya got? The only stuff I can't stand (in general) is whiny country, new country, and, y'know, country-country. Johnny Cash kicks everyone's ass. Mostly, I'm a lyrics fanatic, but something that forces me to dance can't be all bad either, as far as I'm concerned. Oh, and the bizarre is very much appreciated.
Five favourites (no real order):
1. Grosse Pointe Blank
2. Big Night
3. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
4. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead
5. Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels
Blah blah blah blah, blah blah. Blah... blah blah blah! Blah. Blahblah blah bleeeeaaarrgh. Blurp.
I decided to attempt this. Thus- currently reading: Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrel by Susanna Clarke Lost in a Good Book by Jasper Fforde (surprisingly, not a typo) A Book Of Bosh by Edward Lear Book Of Longing by Leonard Cohen And, last but certainly not least, The Peculiar Memories of Thomas Penman by Bruce Robinson Other favourite authors: Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, Cyril Kornbluth, Alfred Bester, Christopher Moore, J. M. Coetzee, Douglas Adams, Tolkein, Asimov, Heinlein, Ben Bova, W.B. Yeats, Ellis Peters, Vonnegut, Tom Robbins... Guilty pleasures authors list: Lillian Jackson Braun, Agatha Christie, P.D. James, Janet Evanovich, L.M. Montgomery (her ghost stories, mainly)... You have no idea what a short list that is. I just put down the ones who are sitting right in front of me on my desk shelves...
I have so many and most of them are in my list of people I want to meet. Aside from them, pretty much any human who goes through life not only trying to be benign but actually also making a positive difference is my hero, and I want to be more like them.
