I'm a saxophonist with 30 years experience in the jazz genre. I was educated at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. I hold degrees in Music Composition and Music Education from the college and have performed, composed and arranged for a variety of ensembles throughout my career. My compositions have been published and my work has been commissioned for student ensembles in the Rochester, NY market.
I moved to the Rochester area in late 1984 and have since been a regular performer with many bands in western New York. In 2004, I released my first solo recording which features my original compositions and arrangements as well as several notable Rochester area musicians.
From 2004 through 2006, I was a member of the Jazz Composers Workshop in New York City where I had the opportunity to work with acclaimed jazz composers Jim McNeely and Michael Abene. Currently I'm continuing my study of jazz composition with Dave Rivello, an up-and-coming composer on Rochester's local scene, who is also a faculty member at the Eastman School of Music.
A member of the International Association for Jazz Education (IAJE), I continue to participate in that organization's conferences which keeps me abreast of the latest developments in the jazz genre and provides insight into the future direction of jazz music, both in America, and abroad. My continuing commitment to the study of America's jazz music qualifies me as a performer and clinician in this unique musical genre.
I've performed at the Rochester International Jazz Festival as a member of the Greater Rochester Jazz Orchestra and have played with the Mel Rogers Big Band, Moment's Notice Sextet, as well as many other local favorites. I have been a regular performer at the Clarissa Room (formerly Shep's Paradise), the Montage Grille, and other local venues.
My quartet plays traditional jazz from the Great American Songbook, the bebop era, contemporary styles and original music that keeps the band sounding fresh. This unique blend of music offers an evening of jazz that audiences will appreciate for a long time to come.
