Life is GOOD!!

About Me

Bio:Born in Calcutta India my destiny was set in place when my parents and myself moved to Canada in 1964. I picked up the guitar at the age of twelve, but had already been an avid listener for years.By the time I turned thirteen I knew music would be my life. While immeasurably grateful for the support and encouragement my family gave me. I took full advantage of the vast array of musical styles I was exposed to and soaked it up as much as possible like a sponge. While my feet were fully planted in Hard Rock, I became interested in Progressive Rock and Fusion. Combining elements of Rock, Classical, Jazz, Funk, Celtic, Country, Folk and Latin, the presence of no rules and restrictions was overwhelming. Being that the essence of music to me is freedom, this world of anything goes expression was beautiful and incredibly exciting. (IT STILL IS!)After leaving my hometown of Kenora, Ontario, I was rudely awakened to the fact that the vast majority of people I encountered had not even heard of most of my favorite bands and artists.Once a couple of years had been spent playing in clubs across Canada, a decision was made to attend the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California. This proved to be another eye opening (as well as ear opening) experience. The student visa expired and it was back to Canada, where after playing with various cover bands, I received a phone call from Chris Burke-Gaffney (The Pumps, Orphan) who was recording an album for Anthem Records with his newest band The Dead Beat Honeymooners. In a flash I was flown to Toronto where I played on three tracks (Yo Mama, Temptation & Money, Money, Money) and was welcomed into the group. Here was the opportunity to play for thousands of people as well as open shows for Guns N Roses, Robin Trower, Sass Jordon, Extreme, Steve Miller Band, Brian Adams and Kim Mitchell. After that stint with the Dead Beats, it was back to the cover circuit and the music biz roller coaster ride continued. Frustration mounted with no chance to truly express oneself and the plunge was finally taken to start my own band. All composition duties (music & lyrics) as well as lead vocal responsibilities were assumed by myself and THE BARRY G. PLAYER BAND was born. MyGen Profile Generator
