Everyone knows the best thing about a rural town is the Chinese Food
restaurant between the hardware store and the tavern.
That said, imagine you found a lost Norman Rockwell painting
depicting a rather odd scene in a Chinese Food restaurant. This
particular work has never been seen before and it somehow
magically captures every nuance of the vibrant new band, Chinese Food.
In the picture, it's night time. Old cars are parked out front.
The joint is filled with every character from miles around. A cowboy
sips a foreign beer beneath a neon dragon. Two truckers play Go Fish
with an alien. Circus performers, hippies and dudes with Trans Ams, are
leaning against the eel tank. Old people, young people, the dreamers
and schemers all rubbing elbows.
The Talking Heads are throwing darts with ZZ Top. Tom Waits and
the ghost of Bill Haley are having a laugh over a game of pinball.
You get the feeling you've seen it before. Then through the front window,
you notice a beautiful young woman standing on the street. She's the only one
in the painting who's looking at you. You can't take your eyes off her.
It all starts to make sense: the only thing that any of us really have
in common,
is that we're all here, and we're all waiting for Chinese Food.
