BIOGRAPHY MARTIN TZONEV, Opera artist: The bass MARTIN TZONEV was born on 28.02.1973 in one of the most artistic and aristocratic cities of BULGARIA named RUSE.--------- At his hometown on the river Danube, he got a high school diploma in Interior architecture. Simultaneously, he studied classical singing at the COLLEGE of MUSIC with the famous maestro George Deliganev.------- At the age of 21, he entered the NATIONAL ACADEMY of MUSIC classified at the first place among the male contestants. -------Only in his second year of studying he made his Professional DEBUT as DON BASILIO from "Il barbiere di Sevilia" at State OPERA RUSE. For the celebration of the Anniversary of the Music Academy he was chosen to perform the grandiose piece "MONOLOGUE" for Bass and Orchestra by A.Tekeliev at "BULGARIA HALL" hall in SOFIA. The piece was shown on NATIONAL TV, and then he recorded it for the NATIONAL RADIO. ---------Among many concerts with songs and arias, he often performed classical roles like FERRANDO -"Il trovatore", RAIMONDO - "Lucia..", MONTERONE - "Rigoletto", SAMUEL - "Un ballo.." at his hometown Opera in Ruse. In his third year of studies, he was invited to join the tour in TEATRO COLLISEO LISABON as Ferrando - "Il trovatore" and Raimondo - "Lucia di Lamermoor". In the next couple of years he was invited by the Dutch producer P.Ultee to tour regularly with the DUNABE TOURING OPERA. There he sang, apart from the above-mentioned, the parts of RAMFIS - "Aida", NOURABAD - "Perlfishers", and REQUIEM MOZART in the cities of AMSTERDAM, MAASTRICHT, BRUGGE, ANTWERPEN, BORDEAUX, LISABON and others. In the year 1998 he won the FIRST PLACE in the Tsvetana Diakovich INT. SONG COMPETITION in Sofia. The same year he graduated from the Academy of Music with the highest score, and rightaway won a schollarship from the University of Graz, Austria. He joined the opera studio there working on future roles and performing onstage as Man in Armor - "Zauberfl..te", DR.BARTOLO - "Le nozze di Figaro", etc. ---------In Graz, he joined the AIMS DALLAS Summer Academy, where he got the AWARD OF THE PUBLIC at the "Meistersinger competition". --------Just a year after, he was invited to join the INT. OPERA CENTER in AMSTERDAM. In the Netherlands he received coachings by some of the greatest opera specialists from The Netherlands Opera (Henk Smit), San Francisco Art Academy (Mikael Eliasen), July Art School (Ted Altschuler), The Metropolitan Opera (William Neil), Glenbourne Opera (Nicholas McGegan), and did a Master class with ROBERT LLOYD. During these years Martin Tzonev performed at numerous concerts and festivals. Some of them were "SONGS AND DANCES OF THE DEATH" by Moussorgsky at the AMSTERDAM CONSERTGEBOUW with the Netherlands Blasers Ensemble; Littore, Famigliare3, Console2 from "L'incoronazione di Poppea" at THE NETHERLANDS OPERA(Conductor Christophe Rousset, Director Pierre Audi, Seneca - Robert Lloyd, Orchestra - Les Talents Lyriques); BILLY JACKRIBBIT from "La fanciulla del west" at Opera ZUID Maastricht (Director Christopher Alden, Het Brabants Orchestra); The DUTCH PREMIERE of "Three Sisters" by P.E..tv..s as WERSHININ (Conductor Niksa Bareza, Director Stanislas Nordey) at the National Reiseoper; REQUIEM VERDI at St. Joriskerk Amersfoort (Cond.Ton Braas, Orch. UvA J.Pzn.Sweelinck); Prinzensgracht Open Air Fest with Arias etc. -----------He was hired by Michael Horwath (Cond.&ex-assistant of Herbert von Karaian) and Peter Kroone ("Companions") to make a recording/performing of FERRANDO from "Il trovatore". The performances took place at the Arena in Rotterdam - "OPERA IN AHOY". His colleagues were Olga Romanko - Leonora, Ignacio Encinas - Manrico, Elisabetta Fiorillo - Asucena. With "Companions" he also recorded&performed "Nabucco" and many others. --------In 2001-02 Martin Tzonev was a member of the VOLKSOPER WIEN. There he performed with big success the roles of COLLINE - "La Boheme" in the legendary staging by Harry Kupfer; SNUG (the Lion) from "A Midsummer Night's dream" by B.Britten (Cond.Hans Drewanz, Dir.Phillippe Arlaud, Oberon - Jochen Kowalski); DR.BARTOLO from "Le nozze di Figaro", and others.-------- Since the year 2002 MARTIN TZONEV is a member of the OPER BONN. His debut there as DON MAGNIFICO from "La cenerentola" (Cond.Christof K..nig) put him in the very respectful place of carrying the Bass Repertoire of the Theater. Among classical repetoire roles like PADRE GUARDIANO - "La forza del destino", BANCO-"Macbeth", LINDORF, COPELLIUS, MIRAKEL, DAPERTUTTO - "Les contes d'Hoffmann", etc., he had great success performing LEPORELLO-"Don Giovanni", for which he got Two BEST ARIST NOMINATIONS by the GERMAN PRESS CRITICS.------- In 2004 he took part in the 23rd International BELVEREDE Singers Competition in Vienna, and won the KULTURKONTAKT PRIZE. -----A GREAT SUCCESS Martin TZONEV celebrated with the legendary stagings by Dietrich Hilsdorf and Cond.Jos van Veldhoven of H..NDELs "Belsazzar"(GOBRIAZ) and "Jephtha"(ZEBUL) oratorias.-------- He is a regular guest at the Opera MANNHEIM, Opera L..BECK, Opera REGENSBURG, etc. -------In 2006 he sang LUCIFERO - "La reurrezione" by H..ndel in Westerkerk Amsterdam with "COMBATIMENTO CONSORT ORCH."(Cond.Jan Willem de Vriend). After his glamourose DEBUT as DON GIOVANNI at the "March Music Days"FESTIVAL in Ruse, Bulgaria, he got invited by LUIS ALVA to perform the role at the TEATRO SEGURA di LIMA, Peru. -------Just a week ago the public selabrated his DEBUTE as FIGARO-"Le nozze.."by MOZART-----------
