rd Day Rising were a Christian hard rock/metal band from Newport in South Wales. We played together, through a variety of personnel changes, throughout the '90's and into the early 2000's.
Here's a Brief history of the band :
-ish : The band starts to evolve, through a variety of name changes and personnel changes and eventually settles on a fairly stable line-up featuring Chris Edwards, Mike Spear and Karl Albert. A four-track cassette, 'Time' is released with a young bassist by the name of Adrian Curtis.
: Dougie Douglas, Former vocalist of Third World Cafe joins the band on bass and they begin writing for a debut album
: 'Paper Chain' is recorder at Sonic 1 Studios in Llanelli and released as an independent album. The band begin to play extensively throughout the UK.
: The first five tracks for the second album are recorded at Sonic 1, with Dougie still on bass. Dougie plays his last gig on Stage 2 at Greenbelt to an ecstatic audience. Andy Long, another former member of Third World Cafe, joins as bassist and plays his first gig with the band, also at Greenbelt, the following day. Towards the end of the year the band return to Sonic 1 to complete the 'Spiral' album, now with Andy on bass.
: The band continue to play all over Britain and the 'Spiral' album is released in the summer on the Nephesh label, owned by Dougie Douglas. Towards the end of that year Mike Spear and Karl Albert decide to leave the band to form a new band, Kosher.
: Chris and Andy recruit guitarist Mark Ruebery and drummer Gareth Dylan Smith, they begin to demo some new material, written by mark and Chris.
: The band make their final recording, a cover of the Barclay James Harvest song 'Hymn' which is released on a BJH tribute album called 'Everyone By Everybody Else. A few gigs are played but other commitments are beginning to take over. One memorable event was an apearance at Xtreme World, an open air festival in Swansea headlined by Motorhead.
: 3rd Day Rising are invited to shoot a video for a Christian TV channel, they choose the track 'House Of Cards'; from the 'Spiral' album. The video can be seen in the window above. Mark is on guitar and the drummer is a friend called Bill, but the actual track is the original album cut, featuring Mike and Karl.
: the band played their final gig at Andy's fortieth birthday party. We never split up, we just faded out!
: Andy puts up a Myspace page, The 'Spiral' line-up of the band is reunited for a few beers and a chat.
