In 1984 at the ripe old age of 5, Scott Leslie heard the song Born in the U.S.A. and told his parents he wanted to be Bruce Springsteen. Their response: Piano lessons. So it started, first with classical music. Approaching senior citizen age at 8, he won his first Sonatina festival with Motzart's Sonatina in C.
But despite the accolades, it was rock n' roll that was in his blood. Scott began writing songs when he was 10. His first was a very dark piece called "City Boy" a piece about drug dealers. How he was aware of the drug problem in this country at that age was baffling to everyone. At 14, he stopped taking classical piano and began intensive jazz training.
Relying solely on his accute ear, he never learned how to read music, which has also baffled most. In college, he began promoting concerts and met a band out of Boston called The Push Stars. Hearing him play as an opener for them, he was invited to go on tour with them as their keyboard player. Traveling across the country and playing rooms such as The Fillmore (SF), House of Blues (L.A. , Chicago) and The Avalon (Boston) was a thrill that lasted for three great years.
Following the end of the last tour, Leslie recorded four original compositions with the help of Brian Wilson's backup band The Wondermints, and some of the best commercial singers in the business. Where it goes from here is anyone's guess. Most believe that Leslie will end up homeless and estranged. Some believe that "City Boy" was a bizarre prophecy. And a few believe that they actually like the songs. So take a listen and decide for yourselves. Only you can keep Scott Leslie in a cozy apartment.
Scott has recently opened for Acts such as Martin Sexton, Third Eye Blind, Chris Trapper of (The Push Stars), and The Clarks. In 2005 You too can find yourself singing in the shower along to one of his songs, or help by spreading his music to your co-workers, or even good friends. Look for Scott Leslie to tour in 2006.
