Anything that has to do with making/reading/binding books. That's right, book-binding and proud of it. Movies make me happy, the written word does the rest. I'm constantly thinking of my next tattoo, and it's always being editted. I can't wait for the Whole foods down the street to open (next year I think), and I still think the best beer in the Bay Area is at Jupiter's on Shattuck. Cheesy films and even cheesier chili at Mel's are what I love, but beaches and Ray Bradbury are a close second.
Kevin Spacey, because he's a sexy motherf*cker, although I have heard he's a dick. Maybe I'll keep my fantasy of him alive and go with Umberto Ecco. I'd feel stupid, sure, but he's the kind of person you don't mind feeling a bit daft in front of because you know there's no way you're going to understand everything he says. Not counting the language barrier, of course.
I'm in love with the Reservoir Dogs soundtrack, I want to have its babies. Robert Rodriguez will just have to get in line. I have always had a sentimental attachment to old Michael Jackson and Paul Simon...they raised me. I can't get enough of Billie Holiday and Nina Simone, but when I want a man to sing to me, I turn to John Lee Hooker. Zap Mama keeps me happy after all that blues, and Flogging Molly gives me my Irish fix. I'll pretty much listen to anything that has a good beat and I can sing along to. When the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill came out, I nearly had an audiogasm.
Now here's where it gets messy. Dark comedies are what I'm drawn to: Death to Smoochy, Heathers(pretty much anything that Danny DeVito directed), Jawbreaker Pecker, Eulogy, Drop Dead Gorgeous, etc. I can take gorey action too...aka Quentin Tarantino movies, vampire movies are a major plus, and anything Troma puts out. Fight Club and Oldboy, Ichi the Killer and Zatoichi (not the cheesy series, but the original movie). When I'm in a stupid, feel-good kinda mood, I go for the classics...Princess Bride, 10 Things I Hate About You, Noises Off, Mumford, and the View Askew gems(Mallrats, Dogma, Chasing Amy...you know the rest). I don't try to make movies something they're not, I just take them for what they are and try to enjoy them. I loved Rules of Attraction and American Psycho, but I do realize that not every book translates well to the screen. I can be critical, but I'll always come up with something nice and good about a movie before I tear it apart.
I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
Denis Johnson(Jesus' Son) and Amy Hempel, Charles Bukowski, Chuck Palaniuk, Erika Lopez(woo!), and Tom Robbins to name a few authors that I have to read everything that they've written. I love finding short story collections of my favorite authors, they're so much more intimate. Ray Bradbury is a sci-fi god, and I firmly believe that Dorothy Parker was the perfect feminist. Brett Easton Ellis is the only impression I have of L.A., so it's not a great one, but I love the way he writes. Historical fiction makes me feel smart, but I'm by no means a fundamentalist when it comes to the written word. Nick Hornby makes tragedy feel normal, and I love him for that. I do love poetry, but there are so many poets to name that it's hard to think. Alice Jones, however, comes easily to mind. She writes quietly of specific things, not caring whether you get it or not, but rewarding you if you do.
