The Elder's Prayer
This short piece was composed shortly before completion of A Look Within. It was intended to be a demonstration for my grandparents, which wrapped up nicely as a finished composition. This was one of the first tracks uploaded to the MySpace player when I created this profile.
The First Steps
This was the very first piece I completed after learning to play and record sounds using my setup (which was very simple back then). It consists of two layers, one playing off the other. This was done a couple of months before the fist track for A Look Within was recorded.
Of Love and Dreams
I ended up recording this one for my wife, Jackie. I was waiting for her to return home one evening and started playing improv piano passages. At some point I must have played something that reminded me of her and I realized how much I missed her at that moment. So I started to play with more emotion. I laid down a synth accompaniment and tweaked the final tracks a bit. That night I went to sleep before she came home, but in the morning she was there beside me... and the tune was still fresh in my head.
A Look Within began about two years ago as a series of experimental improvisations. In the beginning I was just concerned with learning my way through the process of creating and recording the sound, as it was all fairly new to me. As I progressed, the foundations of more advanced compositions began to form, and soon I noticed a common feeling running through each of the pieces. Building on this concept, I developed what is now a complete body of work in the form of my debut release.
It is interesting to note that I did not create the pieces in the order they appear on the album, nor did I compose the pieces seperately. The sound was sculpted out as a whole, with newer layers of sequences built upon the older ones as I gained more and more knowledge through the learning process.
