About Me

.. Originally formed as a side project of Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson in 1998, Sunn O))) has become known as the leaders in the drone metal genre.
In the beginning the band was intended to be a tribute to Earth, another drone band. Earth was also the major inspiration, not only for Sunn O))), but also for other bands that Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson have formed, such as Khanate, Burning Witch, and Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine.
Sunn O))) is still active today and is currently signed with the Southern Lord record label, which was founded by the members of the band. Wikipedia has a great summary.

Today it is out of print.
Flight Of The Behemoth
Flight Of The Behemoth (2002) is the band's third studio album and their first with Southern Lord. This one is probably their first major success as it is a little more experimental. "F.W.T.B.T." is a cover song of Metallica's "For Whom The Bell Tolls" and is the first Sunn O))) track to use drums and vocals. The album is still available for purchase today.
Veils It White (12")
Veils It White (2003) was released as an EP and with limited press. There is only one track, "Veils It White" which is a cover song of Flight Of The Behemoth by James Plotkin.
White1
White1 (2003) is their fourth album. This one only has three tracks each about 15-20 minutes. The first track, "My Wall" features spoken word by Julian Cope, quoting the poem My Wall, which he wrote for this track. The last track, "A Shaving Of The Horn That Speared You" is the band's first and only all keyboard track. The album is still available.
The Liberations of Samhain
The Liberations of Samhain (2004) is the band's first live recording. "The Liberations of Samhain" is a 49 minute track of a live performance in London in 2003. The second track is an interview with Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson. This release was limited to 600 copies total.
White2
White2 (2004) is the follow-up album from White1. Again, there are only three tracks. This album stays close to the traditional Sunn O))) sound. It was released by Southern Lord and can still be purchased today.

Candlewolf of the Golden Chalice (12")
Candlewolf of the Golden Chalice (2005) is the third EP by Sunn O))). This one was also only released on vinyl and was sold exclusively on tour in 2005.
Black One
Black One (2005) is the sixth full length album, it is by far the darkest and heaviest one yet. This album has gained the most success and popularity of all of their releases. The album is currently available.
Angel Coma
Angel Coma (2006) is a split album by Sunn O))) and Earth. There is one track from each band. "Coma Mirror" by Sunn O))) is an un-released track from Black One. "A Plague of Angels" by Earth is from the Hex album.
La Mort Noir dans Esch/Alzette
La Mort Noir dans Esch/Alzette (2006) is another live album. It was only sold on a recent tour in 2006 and limited to 1000 hand numbered copies.
Altar
Altar was released on Halloween 2006. It is a collaberation album with Boris, another band on the Southern Lord record label. Altar's songs are quite different. It is classic Sunn O))) music only with more guitars and drums.
