“Ali” Stephenson started experimenting with music at a young age. He taught himself to play chords on an old piano in his grandmothers basement. Having an older sister that listened to jazz, he began to appreciate music improvisation. Unlike most producers that start as DJs, Ali started producing and writing music after purchasing a professional keyboard with no formal music training. He quickly developed his musical talents and started to work with some aspiring rappers and musicians in VA. After being introduced to another producer that had a different style, he improved his understanding of melodies and grooves setting his tracks apart from the basic “heavily sampled” hip hop tracks of the mid 90’s. After opening a small recording studio in VA Beach he recorded and released a maxi single with a local Hip Hop group that caught the attention of more local artist and producers. He engineered and mastered it in the popular “Master Sound Studios” which is now home to The Neptunes production team. He went on to help produce, write and record with artist such as Dave Hollister(Black Street), Jack Knight(Bad Boy), Teddy Riley(Guy, Black street), Boss Hogg(WE), Will Stewart(Producer of “No Diggity”), and Kenny Wray(singer, writer). Ali has demoed his music for several well known producers that gave him the seal of approval for his sound and style which makes him one of the most sought after local talents in VA.
