Sy Pryor grew up in Melton Mowbray Leicestershire,England where he sang and played music in church. Became turned on to jazz after his Grandfather played him a copy of Benny Goodman Live At Carnegie Hall 1938 & was amazed at the great Clarinet sound of Benny Goodman. Whilst in School he joined the local youth jazz band .Played Clarinet about the age of 12 years & Trumpet at 15. and found that people found the Clarinet 'dated' within jazz. Anyway He soon became immersed in the local jazz music scene. Many musicians have encoraged and/or inspired me over the years from my first great teacher Graham Mason and Jayne Gooderson to Jazz players like Benny Goodman ,Artie Shaw ,Pee Wee Russell ,Miles Davis, & Chet Baker,to classical musicians like Emma Johnson & Sharon Kam to Rafael Mendez &
Sergei Nakariakov .
