About Me

Born and bred in West London, throughout her school years it was clear that Alison had creative talents. From a young age her main passions were singing and writing poetry and it was only natural that she later went on to combine the two. She began songwriting in her early teens but as a shy and self-conscious teenager, Alison was torn between her desire to sing and her lack of confidence. Not wanting her musical creativity to be stifled under a cloud of musical theory Alison decided not to pursue music at an educational level. Having had piano lessons from the age of 11 she gave them up in order to develop her vocal technique. She started singing lessons at the age of 16 and over the five years that followed regularly sang at local festivals and concerts. Gradually the confidence Alison had in her performing ability and in herself blossomed and she broke away from her inhibitions. From aged 17, Alison began working with local music producers and recorded her first demo. Over the next few years she went on to work with various producers but couldn't seem to find one that shared her motivation and direction. After trying her hand at a range of music styles including dance and garage sampling, Alison began busking and gigging in local pubs as part of a duo.Wanting to focus on her own songs and feeling overshadowed by the ideas of the people she'd been working with, Alison decided she needed to dedicate herself to her own material. Drawing on the painful memories of turbulent relationships and the difficulties she'd experienced as a teenager, Alison began to write more intense and heartfelt music. She found inspiration in the haunting and soulful vocals of Nick Drake and Joni Mitchell and was touched by the moving vocals and deeply emotive lyrics of Ray Lamontagne. After watching Ray Lamontagne perform to an awestruck and deathly silent audience at the Shepherds Bush Empire, Alison felt even more determined to achieve her goal and become a successful singer/songwriter.Over the last three years Alison has worked separately with three guitarists/songwriters to further develop her unique singing and writing style. Alison has gigged in and around London in renowned music venues such as Soho's Teatro and The Queen's Head, Islington. With a desire to keep the music real, Alison's heartfelt songs are free from the contrived posturing and irony of much of today's music and are a reminder of the emotional resonance of the best music. With her unique style and breathtaking voice, the success of this emerging talent is simply a question of time.
