About Me

Grammy Award Winning Guitarist Amrit Sond has graced the same billing with the world's most renowned Guitarists on the scene today; Dominic Miller (STING), Hugh Burns (George Michael), Ronnie Johnson (Van Morrison, Leo Sawyer), Doyle Dykes, Antonio Forcione, Jacques Stotzem, Preston Reed, Neil Stacey, Mike Messer, Clive Carroll and John Etheridge to name but a few.His unique contemporary instrumental music draws on elements of World Music, Jazz, Classical, Folk, Rock and New-Acoustic Techniques (two-handed tapping and percussive slaps) all honed into a highly refined and melodically driven compositional approach.Born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, he was exposed to African Folk Music at a very early age, and, being of Asian origin, Indian Music was always the backdrop of his family home life. He later studied Art and his family moved to the Middle East (Kuwait) where he then became interested in Arabic and eastern music. This coupled with the African and Indian Music influences that he grew up with, has helped shape his unique compositions. He uses unorthodox tunings as a compositional tool supported by techniques and sounds that bring his ideas to life. This ensures that each piece has its own unique sound and vibe, aided sometimes by time signature changes incorporated into the melodically driven sections.Amrit has been featured in the US Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine (Issue 32) who devoted an article to the title track from his debut CD, "Circular Motion". He has appeared at The Acoustic Avalon Show in Leicester, the Cambridge Folk Festival, London Guitar Festival, the Frankfurt MUSIKMESSE in Germany, and performs regularly nation-wide. Amrit has also been the Featured Artist on BBC Radio Lancashire in the U.K and Six Strings and A Million Possibilities in Canada, with interviews and live performances on air.He is a GRAMMY AWARD WINNER for BEST POP INSTRUMENTAL, his version of the Henry Mancini classic tune "Two for the Road" was featured on the Grammy Award winning CD, "Pink Guitar - the Music of Henry Mancini". The CD also features other Guitar greats (Ed Gerhard, Laurence Juber, Pat Donohue etc.)
