Bio:
B-Boys Underground started as a summer program on WAIF 88.3 FM : , a community radio station in Cincinnati, Ohio. It ran 8am-10am Tuesday morning the summer of 1995. The original 1200 HOBOs Mr. Dibbs and DJ Skip did the show and it was hosted by an assortment of mc’s known as the empire (now defunct). The next summer (1996), G-Fresh started hosting the show with Mr. Dibbs being the primary DJ. B-Boys Underground had an incredible summer with the show. B-Boys Underground aired Thursdays from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. B-Boys Underground had a sponsor for the show, something few summer programs have ever had, and gave away lots of tapes & cd’s and tickets to the "Smoking Grooves Tour". The Tour featured Busta Rhymes, Spearhead, A Tribe Called Quest, The Fugees, Cypress Hill & Ziggy Marley. B-Boys Underground interviewed Luke, The Alkaholiks, Xzibit and Nneka. B-Boys Underground averaged 40-50 calls in an hour show. B-Boys Underground handled their business so thorough that they moved in to a regular time slot at the end of the summer. Once again this was very, very rare for the station.
B-Boys Underground started on Wednesday night, moved to Tuesday night within a month and 3 months later moved to Friday night 2am to 4am. G-Fresh was the Host and Nobody The Unknown Stuntman the Co-Host. The 1200 HOBOs Mr. Dibbs, John Doe and occasional other HOBOs (DJ Skip, Signify, Jerm) stopped in to DJ. Also 3rd Finger Record Pool DJ's Bizzy Biz and Nate The Great would come through. Willie Maggot also assisted in hosting for a spell, giving the show a prank call, Howard Stern feel mixed with hip-hop. DJ Pillow was instrumental in helping with the show after Mr. Dibbs was no longer a part. The show remained hot with the help of longtime 3 rd Finger Record Pool member, and videographer / video producer who is now going on his 10 th year with “Basement Flava†DJ Black Sheep. 3 rd Finger Record Pool members DJ Mike Anthem & longtime hot quick mix DJ MnM kept the live mixes outstanding.
The shows format was underground hip-hop. The show is fun for us to do and entertaining for our audience. We have call in blasting contest, Gangsta vs. Hip-Hop chronicles where we discuss various topics pertinent to hip-hop music and culture, promotional giveaways, on air mc battles, guest dj’s, contest, etc... We also play a mixture of old school, mid school and new school hip-hop and turntablist mixtapes. We have interviewed such artist as Guru of Gangstarr, Big Pun, Boogie Monsters, Rappin 4-Tay, G.L.O.B.E., Jazzy Jay and more. In 2005 we decided to let former Truth Music Progeny artist LeSun who is now doing Gospel Hip-Hop (show called The Message) and Raw Fusion alternate the spot that was Da Open Mind Session. The focus was on maintaining B-Boys Underground as a premier radio show.
Da Session (Da Open Mind Session nka "Open Mind")
The second show was called Da Session which started in October of 1996. The format was more inclusive than underground hip-hop culture music. It was more Urban Music in general. DJ Skillz & DJ Will started the show. It was mainly run by DJ Skillz up until early 2001 when he became a dj/host on 100.9 WIZF FM. The show started out featuring predominately East Coast Hip-Hop artists. The genre changed to encompass all Urban Music right before DJ Skillz left and DJ Will aka DJ Scuzzy & Easz E took over. Others who helped out with the show were DJ Black Sheep nka DJ Goldfingaz nka Mista Fingaz, DJ Black Earth, Big Hoss, DJ Mixmasta Ace, DJ Lighthouse, DJ Hood aka Mighty Jo Young, G-Man, DJ Undaground, J Buck, B. Scott and others. The show is now defunct to focus on our other show.
