MOKA!

Caribbean Fusion

About Me

Born of a traditional Parang group, MOKA has a plan to raise the bar to a new level in the genre of Caribbean music.
Parang, soca and latin-based music strongly pervade the group’s performances. However its repertoire is steadily expanding and will be adapted to fit most contemporary musical tastes. Audiences are certain to sit back (or get off their seats) and thoroughly enjoy the stimulating visual, rhythmic and melodious performances of this stunning group of energetic, accomplished artistes.
MOKA released its début CD entitled “Dis Is MOKA!” in Toronto on October 17th 2004. The album presents an eclectic combination of traditional folk, calypso, latin, parang, chutney (a fusion of soca with a distinctly south-asian rhythm) and other genres of music familiar to the Caribbean. Don’t be surprised to hear an Olive Walke original jazzed up with a catchy rapso, or a familiar lavwey with some kalinda thrown in for good measure. Sales so far have been favourable both in Canada and in Trinidad and Tobago with the CD making a popular musical holiday treat for music lovers.
MOKA has continued to grow in professional musicianship, while exponentially increasing the fan base previously built by its predecessor "Parang Sensation". Audiences comprise of music lovers from every cultural background that can be found in Toronto. This is a result of their well-received appearances at city-wide events that include the Celebrate Toronto Street Festival; Beaches International Jazz Festival; Ottawa Carifest; Oakville jazz festival; Scarborough Culterfest and many others. Keep your eyes on this group, you won't want to miss their live performances.
