...and then the telephone rang. A book on the medicinal history of the ancient world was dropped as a voice spoke calmly. A plan was devised, a test was failed and souls were sold for rock and roll.
This October 2004 conversation, amplified across the city through ragged telephone wires, brought founding members of Sleepcomesdown [Kristofer Taylor + Danny Strash] together in conspiracy with former members of Notaword [Steve Ruppa + Tim Feret] to reform the band’s lineup and drastically alter their sound.
Furthering this sonic experimentation was the inclusion of electro-whiz kid [Dylan Zocchi] to the band’s lineup in March 2007, manipulating live and archived sampling, vocal enhancement and overall nervousness.
Secret Handshake, the first release from the reformed Sleepcomesdown, was recorded and mixed at Mission Control [a 105 year old barn in southeastern Wisconsin] by Sleepcomesdown and Matt Miller [Notaword] and was mastered by Alan Douches [Animal Collective, These Arms Are Snakes, Converge…] at West West Side Music.
Retreating from the business models and target demographics of most “underground†record labels, Sleepcomesdown cut ties with their former label to release this record on their own terms. So turn the lights down, the stereo up and let the wiretaps roll.
