Freepoint Crew is an independent hip-hop trio hailing from the southern coast of Finland. FPC is recognized for its distinctive way of blending soulful beats with innovative rhyming, while adding a northern European dimension to the sound.
Freepoint Crew was born at the dawn of the new millennium, when bedroom emcee MAZ hooked up with beat makers JMA and Mathias. The three individuals all shared a great passion for music and all three of them were heavily influenced by the east coast sound of the 90s. 2000-2002 was a period of enthusiasm when the trio eagerly recorded tracks aspiring to bring something of their own to the table. The group has evolved a great deal since those days but the fundamentals have remained the same, sample heavy production and honest lyricism.
The music of Freepoint Crew could be described as timeless and the members have spent several years polishing their skills and carving out their own niche in the hip-hop game.
The first release, which was really a lo-fi demo came out in 2002. The name Freepoint Crew was taken in to use in 2003 and the first official FPC release "Rhythmic & Melodic" saw daylight in the fall of that year. Since then the group has come out with a couple of releases on vinyl and the members constantly have new material in the works.
In early 2007 Freepoint Crew released the 10 track album entitled “Tailor-Made†independently on Chess Piece Recordings. More new material will be dropping soon, as a new 12" will be in stores in mid April. Dutch label Dopeness Galore will bring you "The European Series", which features a blend of older and new tracks. You could see it as a presentation of Freepoint Crew for a wider audience. Make sure you get yours when it drops!
