Why So Serious?

About Me

Hello there!
My name is John. I’m 36 years old and I live in southern Indiana, just outside of Louisville, Kentucky. I am an online instructor for the online division of The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, which I do from my home. At the same time, I am a stay-at-home parent, raising my daughter, Sarah.
I, also, am an artist. I am in the process of getting my photography business up and running, “John Mitchell Dye Photography.” I’ve always considered myself a Fine Art photographer, but over the last couple of years, I’ve come to find commercial photography more appealing to me. I enjoy doing fine art for the simple fact that I work alone, but at the same time, doing commercial work allows me to meet some really exciting people.
My career as a photographer and an artist began in August 1997, when I began my undergraduate studies at McNeese State University in Lake Charles. In May 2001, I received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Visual Arts, with a dual concentration in Photography and Painting. Soon afterwards, wanting to continue my studies in photography, I moved to the upper mid-west part of the country to Cincinnati, Ohio, where I began my graduate studies at the University of Cincinnati at the School of Art in the College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning (DAAP). I presented and exhibited my thesis project, entitled "Tempus Fugit", in December 2003 and in June 2004, I graduated with my Master of Fine Arts degree in Media Arts, concentrating in Photography.
Future projects I have in mind are to explore and record the areas in the states of where my ancestors originated from - Indiana, Kentucky, Texas and in my native south Louisiana. Eventually, I would like to take the idea further and possibly work on the project over in Ireland, Scotland, Wales and other areas throughout the United Kingdom.
An interesting and exciting little tidbit - About a month ago, I’ve come in contact with my biological father for the first time, as well as two younger brothers and another younger sister. We all have been in touch with each other and we all seem to be really excited about this and about our up-coming meeting for the first time in May 2008.
In my spare, I like to do a variety of things such as watching movies, playing bass guitar, writing, reading, cooking, and doing yard work.
Drop me a line sometime. I'd like to hear from you. Also, stop by my website sometime at http://www.johnmitchelldye.com .
Cheers!
