Indie/Folk/Rock

About Me

Jay Dunphy has been entertaining audiences with his original brand of roots-rock for nearly seven years. Often compared to The Rolling Stones, The Band, Steve Earle and Bob Dylan, his music fuses elements of folk and Americana with a contemporary sound.
His sophomore album, "If Winning is Inevitable... Whats the Point in Playing?", saw Jay Dunphy taking on a more rock-oriented sound than his debut, "Season of the Deadened". Released in the fall of 2005, the album spent two weeks in the top 30 of local college radio station CFUV and made their list of most played local albums for 2005, as well as hitting Top 10 in Lethbridge and Kamloops.
With a change in lineup in the fall of 2005, Jay Dunphy and The Religion embarked on their first tour in April 2006, playing 14 shows to appreciative audiences all over Western Canada and Ontario.
Dunphy is currently recording his third album, "Dedicated to No One In Particular," targeted to be released in Summer 2008.

Sounds Like: Been compared to Steve Earle. Been called Dylanesque. Have heard Ryan Adams, and even Violent Femmes.

And the ball kept rolling

Generally if something gets started and it gets some momentum, I push until it's at whatever end I perceived when it started. When I do get something in my head, I always have a pretty calculated plan...
