SPEAK SISTER - A Myspace Group of Poetry & Stories By Women, For Women
Friendster
I'd really like to meet someone who is truly blissful and joyous in their life and their skin. I just want to look into their eyes when they talk about their day.
Open-minded, soulful, slick, chill ass musicians looking for a jazzy, powerful spoken word artist to work it out on some slammin' collaborations.
On another tip I'd like to meet Stevie Wonder, John Legend, Prince, Alicia Keys, Queen Latifah, Outkast, Pam Grier, Vanessa Del Rio, Laura Prepon, Gina Gershon, Lucia Rijker, Tom (you know, MySpace Tom...geez), John Travolta, Jack Nickolson, Christian Slater (who I strongly believe is Jack Nickolson's love child), John Cusack, Spike Lee, Lisa Nicole Carson, Angela Bassett, Denzel Washington, Cuba Gooding Jr, Don Cheadle, Goapele, Rosario Dawson, and a whole bunch of other folks that I'm sure will come to mind later. But I'm not just a celebrity whore (not just) and I want to meet everybody who wants to share new and amazing things with me! I get so bored so easily and now I'm on a tiny little island in the middle of the ocean with nothing to do, I need to keep my juices flowing!!! Stimulate me, people!
In general, I dig groovy, slinky, sexy, soulful shit wit' the bass slammin and beats droppin that makes you crunch your face up like you smell something funky and nod your head like a bobble-head on the dash! More and more artists are feeling and falling into this groove; Erykah Badu, Fertile Ground, Amel Larrieux, Kindred the Family Soul, Ben Harper, Prince, Jazzyfatnastees, Beady Belle, Goapele, Mos Def, Jamiroquai (will have you dancing til ya feets cry), The Roots, Outkast, Joss Stone, Lauryn Hill, Esthero, Black Eyed Peas, John Legend, damn, I'm noddin already!!! Who else, oh, Alicia Keys, Angie Stone, Jill Scott, Brand New Heavies, Kanye West, Mary J. Blige, U2, Sting, Me'Shell NdegeOcello, Seal, Aerosmith, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Bon Jovi, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind and Fire, Carlos Santana, Ray Charles, Teddy Pendergrass, so much love to the late Luther Vandross (there can simply never be another), Teena Marie, Stephanie Mills, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Aretha Franklin, Cassandra Wilson, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Cannonball Adderley, Thelonius Monk, and many, many, many, others.
p.s. 80's MUSIC IS DA SHIZZ-NIT!!! (and what!).
Constantly growing and changing, in absolutely no order: The Breakfast Club, St. Elmo's Fire, What's Love Got to Do With It, Sixteen Candles, Some Kind of Wonderful, Glory, Say Anything, Dazed and Confused, Philadelphia, School Daze, Malcolm X, The Fifth Element, The Boondock Saints, Reservoir Dogs, The Outsiders, The Princess Bride, Love Jones, Pulp Fiction, Million Dollar Baby, Boys Don't Cry, Monster, Devil's Advocate, Dog Day Afternoon, Dancer in the Dark, The Color Purple, The Shining, Carrie, Pet Semetary, Schindler's List, Scarface, Fight Club, Six Degrees of Separation, Dead Presidents, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Eve's Bayou, Bound, E.T., Memento, Set It Off, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Angels in America, Gia, My Own Private Idaho, The Living End, Cooley High, Lady Sings the Blues, Mahogany, Sparkle, Mommy Dearest, Do the Right Thing, Love and Basketball, Brown Sugar, Forrest Gump......and that's all I have to say about that.
In my life, I've only watched TV off and on, I prefer movies, but I like cartoons and I'm a bit of a perv, so South Park, Family Guy, Futurama and cartoons like that are pretty cool (I just watched the Family Guy Movie and it's freakin' hilarious). My new addiction is all things Rachael Ray !! I love cooking and eating healthy and staring at happy, pretty ladies (who also love cooking and eating healthy), so there you go. I still watch Sesame Street (and WHAT!, I work with kids, and IT'S JIVE COOL!) and I like the Discovery Channel, History Channel, and National Geographic stuff about lost or recently discovered sh*t that questions "Da Man's" twisted version of history. Oh, and living in The Bahamas, you kinda have to watch The Weather Channel (to make sure you're not about to get blown off the map by another hurricane).
I just love to read anything. Not really anything, lots of fiction (escapism, I guess) but good fiction. Very descriptive, elaborate, graphic fiction that takes you away completely; makes you smell the food, feel the textures, see the landscapes, and know the people like family.
So, I love novels, poems, or stories by Maya Angelou (I would read her grocery list, and it would be the most beautiful grocery list EVER), Stephen King, Anne Rice, Toni Morrison, Alice Walker, and J.K. Rowling (by means of The Harry Potter series), amongst bunches of others. For stress release, to put a smile on my face re-read The Tao of Pooh and The Te of Piglet. The Princess Bride, The Outsiders, The Giving Tree, Where the Sidewalk Ends (Shel Silverstein was also a wonder), Carrie, The Talisman, The Heart of a Woman, Sula, Kindred, Roots, The Stand.
Good parents; good teachers; kids who really try hard in this society to be good kids (check the Ludacris ft. Mary J. video in my Video Favorites); people who do what they love and love what they do; each powerful and blessed ancestor whose teachings, struggles, and martyrdom bestowed upon me the rights and privileges that I have today.
