Music:
Jazz... not that "Smooth Jazz" crap. But serious, straight-ahead, be-bop inspired, textured, melodic, challenging, complex, modern, classic, avant garde... JAZZ, baby! I also love and appreciate Blues, Rock, Reggae and some Classical. I also enjoy some listening to "old school" hip-hop from time-to-time. That's when Hip/Hop and Rap was either fun, funny, or political!
Movies:
Casablanca, Godfather I & II, Lost In Translation, Citizen Cane, Crash, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Batman Begins, Kill Bill 1 & 2, House of Flying Daggers, Big Fish, Finding Nemo. The Incredibles, The Thing, Invasion of the Body Snatchers... with Netflix, the sky's the limit!
Television:
Admittedly, most of what's on TV is a complete and total waste of time. That's the (pseudo) intellectual side of me talking. Having said that; here's what my "inner couch potato" would watch: The West Wing, Commander & Chief, Battlestar Gallatica, Amazing Race, CSI, Medium, The Shield, Nip/Tuck, Rescue Me, Extras, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Boondocks, The Sopranos, Mad TV, Lost, 60 Minutes, Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, Simpsons, Family Guy, Vegas, Daily Show, Mythbusters, Modern Marvels, Dirty Jobs...
I know what you're thinking. Press the "power" button, drop the remote, and step away from the TV!
Books:
Hey... I remember those. Libraries are filled with them! People use to read them... a lot... before we had this new fangled thing call the internet. I also remember when people read newspapers, too. But alas, the internet killed that too!
Heroes:
First and foremost, my mom; Rose Marie Rorie. What a woman! My sister Jackie who after 50+ years, 'still has my back! My niece Alicia who's not afraid to think outside the box! (Damn good photographer, too!) My daughter Amina for her independence and resolve. My oldest friend in the world, Renee; who has a heart as big as the internet! And lastly the smartest person I personally know, Thomica; who's friendship taught me more about life and common sense, than any schooling or book could ever do!
