How I got started.
How did I start with music? Well, I began singing at about five minutes old. I kid you not. Well... It was more of "la la la-ing" at five minutes old. At the hospital, my mother was on the phone with my great grandmother and I began singing "la la la la la" while she was on the phone. I suppose you could say that that was the beginning of my music. But I didn't really get into singing until I was in the sixth grade or so, when two of my friends, Brigeda and Joanne, and I created a small band. Though this band did not last long due to everyone switching schools for their seventh grade year, the love of creating music stuck with me, so I took my guitar and began writing songs of my own to sing.
The first song that I wrote and recorded (not including little songs that I never did anything with) was Prince Charming. I played it for some friends and got great feedback and this fueled me to write some more songs. I now write songs when I'm depressed, the happiest person in the world, really tired, or just in a loopy mood. I find that it's a way to express my feelings while also doing something that I love- incorporating music.
The true story of my name.
Everyone seems to have a preconceived notion that my name spawned from my older sister's name-Kitty. I must admit, I did become lazy within the last few years and I began taking to simply agreeing with anyone who suggested this idea or other ideas of theirs. I must say, I have agreed with many different takes on how my name came about, from the fact that maybe I wanted to be more ferocious than my sister (this was usually followed by the person telling me this giving me their best "tiger growl") to one of my favorites, I'm just "awesome". But I've decided to let the true story be known.
I was three. Every 3-year-old wants the coolest nickname they can think of. Some stick (like Tiger) and some quickly diminish (like another nickname I had wanted at that age- Angel, or one that my grandfather gave me that lasted fairly long- MLR..it's a long story,). But in my case, no one thought that this wild nickname would last. I was looking through an animal book, studying the animals, at the time, I had decided that nothing was going to stop me from being a veterinarian when I grew up- this changed in the fourth grade, thanks to a pressuring video game that made me so stressed I was near tears. I loved tigers. I loved everything about them; their slyness, the fact that they were cats, their looks. In my eyes, they were the perfect animal. I thought about it, and I decided that my new name had to be Tiger. I excitedly ran upstairs to declare that I would only respond to Tiger. This was laughed at by my parents. They never thought it would last long, but they still introduced me to my teachers by that name, and to their surprise, it stuck. (Now it's just a matter of changing it legally.) ;)
Just please don't ask me if I play golf.
Where I want to go with it.
Where do I want to go with my music? To be honest, I don't really need a record deal or anything like that in order to be happy. I have the support and feedback of my family and friends that keeps me running. Though it would be amazing to have my music produced and to be able to see a shrink-wrapped copy of my CD on a stand at Waterloo Records or something, I'm just as happy selling copies that I have burned on the streets. I don't have a preference, I just want to keep doing what I love and create music.
Want to contact me?
