About Me

Thanks to HEATHER AND JAMIE...
History:
Steve Pilace grew up in Lake Elsinore, California and didn’t graduate high school. He was a total mod back in the day. We’re talking suits, scooters, attitude, and the target shirts. This was the mid-80’s. Probably around ’85 or something. This is where he met Corky Pigeon. Corky was a former child star in the television series ’Silver Spoons’. I believe this was when they started jamming together. They started a mod band in the late 80’s called ’Then Again.’ This band lasted for couple years but then died out due to the other band member wanting to pursue other styles of music. In 1990, Steve and Corky started ’The Gain’ (this name for the band was an obvious offshoot of the Then Again band name). It was them two and a bassist named Brian Mitchell. They made a couple of demo tapes and even a 7" released on BRRAPP Records. Brian left the band to become a Jr. high history teacher. This is when Joey Travers entered the picture. Then the Gain started to blow up. This might be due to the fact that the Gain started throwing in a little bit of punk rock in their mix. Local ’zines started giving this band some serious props. Then, in about 1994-1995, the country started to take notice. This is when the band decided they had to start touring. They toured relentlessly for about 2 years releasing records, splits, appearing on comps, or interviews for a zine. Everywhere you turn you hear, "The Gain are playing tonight, you have to go see the guitar player. He’s fucking crazy!", "I think the drummer used to be in Silver Spoons. He was the dorky kid.", or "Man, the bassist for the Gain is hotter than the guys in Pansy Division!". Whatever you heard, it was positive. The Gain recently called it quits. Don’t know why and I don’t care. I’m just glad they released what they did and that I own it. If you never saw the Gain live, my deepest regrets. You missed one helluva show.
