Franck de Las Mercedes is a New York based artist born in Masaya, Nicaragua. Raised in a family of dancers, musicians and teachers, Franck spent his childhood immersed in the performing arts and surrounded by the local art and craftsmanship of his small town. In the mid-eighties, the Sandinista/Contra conflict forced Franck’s family to immigrate to New York, where Franck grew up and built an impressive resume in music and theatre. In the late nineties, Franck began to experiment and explore with an undying fascination with visual arts, this experimentation quickly evolved into a promising career.
Completely self-taught, FdLM’s creations, from his large scale abstract paintings, to the acclaimed public project “The Priority Boxesâ€, have attracted great interest in his work and given him the opportunity to exhibit alongside important artists such as Romero Britto and Robert Rauschenberg.
Franck de Las Mercedes posed for Celebrity Photographer Felix Natal Jr. in front of his painting “Altered Statesâ€, and was also a subject for a documentary by Cara Weiner on abstract painters. He has been featured in national television and radio shows such as LatiNation, CNN Radio En Español, and Noticiero Telemundo and Univision’s “Aqui y Ahoraâ€. Franck de Las Mercedes has also been featured in articles in several national and international publications such as Reader’s Digest’s Selecciones, La Prensa (Nicaragua), Art Business News, American Style and The Artist’s magazine. In 2007 FdLM was invited by The Betty K Studio in New York to take part in an International Art Workshop led by teaching artists Olivier di Pizio and Gonzalo Belmonte of the Ateliers des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris.
