Born in the Paris of the late 70’s, Matthieu started the violin at the age of four before studying music as well as the oboe for six years at the Conservatoire of the 15th arrondissement in Paris. As a teenager, he discovered Coltrane and started playing the saxophone, which he soon swapped for the bass as joining in several Jazz, Rock or Funk bands. Throughout the following years, he naturally turned towards jazz and finally found the instrument that definitely stirred him : the double bass.After he passed the baccalauréat, Matthieu spent three years at the ARPEJ School of Music under the instruction of Matthieu Bresh and Gildas Boclé. Fond of Arts History, he also attended the École du Louvres, until his meeting with Pierre Michelot made him totally devote himself to Jazz. During four years, he then studied at the Conservatoire National de Région (CNR) of Noisiel with Maurice Spies, Guy Figliolos and Frédéric Favarel, before he went on at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique (CNSM) with Ricardo Del Fra.Since he has left high school, Matthieu has continuously played, whether as a leader or a sideman, in clubs, cafés, festivals or TV shows. Besides, he has composed for short films and, lately, for a play, “The Orestie†by Aeschylus, performed at the Conservatoire National Supérieur d’Art Dramatique.Matthieu originated several bands, notably the Nagual Orchestra which he currently composes for. In April 2004, thanks to this quintet, he won the Young Talents Springboard of the Esprit Jazz de Saint-Germain-des-Prés festival. Presently, The Nagual Orchestra is scheduled to take part in various festivals and has just recorded its third album./
