Orna Annon: Triumphant Metal from Northern Virginia
Combining Norse mythology with fantasy story-telling, Orna Annon casts a spell upon the listener with their clean-vocal hooks and melodies of fallen empires and lost kingdoms just the same as with their headbang-inducing guitar riffs, blistering, thrash inspired drumming, and memorable, mood-setting keyboard lines. Each member plays an integral part in the musical process and stage show, which is what helps distinguish the band from the monotony of other European-metal inspired acts around the world.
Hailing from northern Virginia, an area where anything beyond death metal is unheard of, Orna Annon began their pillage-and-burn tour de force in the summer of 2004, quickly making a name for themselves not only as one of the area's top musical acts, but as one of the top stage performances as well. After recording their 3 track demo in December of '04, the band set out on a string of mini-tours to promote their name, taking them as far west as the Wisconsin/Illinois area (Fimbul Winter Mini-tour '04/05) and as far south as Florida. The many treks proved successful as the fanbase and booking requests grew by surprising numbers.
Drawing influences from bands such as Bathory, Manowar, Blind Guardian, Stratovarius, Immortal, Nuclear Assault, early Metallica, Moonsorrow, Amon Amarth, and Burzum, it is easy to see why Orna Annon's mood changes so drastically from song to song. However, this is also attributed to the lyrical arrangement, as songs are written to fit the story of each particular "chapter" of the band's writing.
With high regard for their "Demo 2005" CDep in recent online magazine reviews, Orna Annon's future is looking bright as word is spreading and recognition is on the rise. Current plans of the band are to continue writing, non-stop, for their full length album as well as continuing their level of constant self-promotion.
Above all else, Orna Annon's goal is to use their European influcences as a medium of exposure for unfamiliar forms of metal to the ears of many North American listeners.
