About Me

The two emcees, Swell and Sentence, created a magical energy. -- www.cmj.com
One time through this album and you feel like you own the world. -- www.kinkyorigami.com
The duo has some insanely catchy stuff that blurs the lines between hip hop and indie pop in ways that I haven't really heard before... -- www.sideonetrackone.com
I haven't been this fond of a hip hop group for years.-- www.culturebully.com
This is some of the freshest mix of indie rock and hip hop I've heard in a long time. -- 5 Acts
Indie rock and underground hip-hop may share many fans, but they usually have little else in common. Metermaids joins the two forward-thinking genres by wedding sharp flows to punchy beats, and most valuably, keyboard layers that could fit into synth-pop or soul-jazz. -- CNet's Download.com (Editor's Pick)
There's plenty of real history that provides the lyrics and backbone for Metermaids' funky, rock-infused headphone rap, but the bottom line is this: It's an absolutely welcome change of pace in the hip hop world. The beats are original, often complimented by live instruments like moody Hammond organs. -- www.insomniaradio.com

BIOGRAPHY
Metermaids' new album "Nightlife," released on 27 Sound, is like a raucous Saturday night out in New York City---It's the live energy of the Beastie Boys, the anthemic rock of U2, and the funk and soul sounds of Motown, brought all together to create a brand new sound in hip hop music.
"Nightlife," already named an "Essential Hip Hop Pick" by CMJ New Music Monthly, is following in the success of the Metermaids' eponymous EP, which reached 11 on the CMJ Hip Hop Charts during a two month stay in the Top 20 in the winter/spring of '07.
The manic energy of the Metermaids' live show has built them a serious buzz, and they have capitalized on that by touring near-constantly in the past two years -- including showcases at the last two SXSW and NXNE Conferences, as well as a CMJ showcase in October '07. They also regularly open for some of music's biggest names -- acts like Brand Nubian, The LOX, Fabulous, Sage Francis, and Umphrey's McGee, to name a few. The broad range of acts they have opened for is a testament to not only the quality of the Metermaids' live show, but also to the broad appeal of their music -- Metermaids are equally at home in front of a rock and roll audience as they are in front of a hardcore hip-hop audience.
With "Nightlife" making serious waves with critics, DJ's, and audiences across the country, 2008 seems to be the year of the Metermaids. Get ready.
