Driving, cooking, eating, travel, music, film, books, American football, drinking, solving mysteries with a dog out of a van, the history channel, the nude female form, the study of religions, Yoo-hoo, the business climate in America, how far is up, the fecal coliform count at Malibu’s Surfrider Beach, the weird television program that replaced the teletubbies, new cuisines, and Bertolt Brecht, but really not much else.
I have recently decided that an eclectic taste in music with very specific highlights on certain artists or sub-genres represents a healthy melodic attitude. Before, when the question, “What kind’a music do you like,†I believed the answer, “I like everything except…insert cliché music genre here†was an expectable answer, or the even more vague, “I like everything.†Unfortunately, there is a lot of shitty music out there (i.e. this country’s fascination with American Idol), and every genre has their prodigal sons that you can’t hate outright. For example, people always say, “I like every kind of music except country.†Given the choice, I would rather listen to country than most music on the radio, and I really don’t care for much country. How can someone just generalize and wipe an entire musical variety off of their cultural playlist? Think of all the influence country-western music has had on pop-music in general. Not to mention, everybody loves Johnny Cash - you show me a person who doesn’t respect the Cash, and I’ll show you an asshole.
Dog Day Afternoon, South Park the Movie, the Die Hard trilogy, Barbarella, The Goonies, Red Dawn, anything with Mary Kate (but not Ashley –that bitch!), Army of Darkness, The Insider, Busty House Wives IX, I don’t know, a lot of stuff… excluding Costner, Bruckheimer, and Disney, all of which I feel owe me at least $8.50 each.
The Family Guy is/was/and is again the best show on television… I really enjoy Adult Swim, CNN Headline News, and the History Channel but for the most part, if its on a major network and its not syndicated or the news, I don’t bother, unless it has 'The' and 'Simpsons' in the title. I once heralded MNF as the best show on TV, but that too, has passed.
King, Bradbury, Orwell, Harper Lee, anything about Cuba or the cold war, Harold and the Purple Crayon, psychology, sex, political satire, the Thomas Guide and cook books.
Gee, this getting an itsy bit personal now. What are we, applying for the Church of Scientology? Is the next question about my felony charges, or do you just want to skip to my offshore account numbers? ….my dad
