I am here for Networking

About Me

21 Years Old. I started DJ-ing and expanding my musical understanding and horizons at the age of 16. Now housing a collection of around 2,000 records, dominated by trance, I also have a great appreciation of House, Techno, Hard House and ambient / alternate.
Currently NOT looking for DJ work as I am now focusing on upgrading to Digital and getting some sick mixes out there again... Future Gigs...
CTRL @ UHSU The Font Bar May 2008 (tbc)
Room 2 @ Lydd Kent - Subtronic
with Nicky Blackmarket headlining room 1!!!)
28th June 2008
I have completed Music Business NVQ Level 3 (Oct 2006 - July 2007) I studied and worked at Pie Factory Music/Studios, Ramsgate, Kent, England...check their profile no. 9 in my friends list ... they're all great guys and are a not-for-profit org. Make sure you check them out and see what they may be to offer you, your friends or family, as they offer a wide range of different activities and workshops throughout the week to the local youth scene.
I was recently accepted into Hertfordshire University and am currently in the midst of studying Sound Design Technology BSc. It's certainly the start of a new life with more prosperous career options in the pipeline. Going so quickly already.
Through my NVQ studies I was fortunate enough to setup an internet label called House Trained Music Label - an online source of House Trained DJ work and creations. WAS Available for download at
www.deejamesbrown.com ...
UNTIL AN ADVERTISING COMPANY BOUGHT THE BLOODY NAME! Will soon have it functional once again under a different address...
Will have an E.P. ready for ltd release by sometime soon - ie when I have the money to dispose of. If you're privileged enough you may receive one. If not, the tracks will be available for download - mastered at 320kbps - or you may buy one from my Ebay profile or Discogs.com -Profile Name: DeeJamesBrown. Some will be sent out for licensing and promotion and the remainder will be for sale through private retailers.
VENUES PLAYED AT:
The Lido Complex, Margate - April 2004
First private playout at age 17, alongside Nik Beats. Played to a varied audience of 150+. Ended the set which was supporting a newly formed band - with a hard house session and attracted some attention.
Punch and Judy - Bit On The Side, Margate - March 2005
Private 21st Birthday bash. Played an opening Hip Hop set (joy!?)finishing off with classic trance. Small crowd, went down a storm!
Qubar, Margate - June 2005 Arranged, promoted and DJ-ed at college party. Learned some valuable lessons about how to deal with venue holders.
Alexandra Road Baptist Church, Margate - August 2005 - Private BDay Do - DON'T ASK!
Dreamland Bingo Hall, - Margate 2005 - Private 18th Birthday bash -
Another random venue with a varied audience; which filtered off to leave some really good characters who loved club house and trance. Ended at 4am with people dancing on tables - Most memorable gig to date.
Qubar, Margate - Summer 2006 - Private booking -
joint hen and stag do. Nik Beats, DJ BlaDantic and myself played a three hour set between us. A mixture of solid and electro and tech house - with a slight lashing of Dutch trance and German techno! Nik went on to do an hour set of his own tracks and releases... received a welcomed round of applause upon leaving! They loved us!
Winter Gardens, Margate - Sept 2006 In assoc. with Art Angels (London UK) -
Exodus / PLague Songs. Played to a 750 strong seated audience - was filmed and recorded by Channel 4. Recently won European Awards... Great to be a part of! Buzz of 2006! NARCS - The band we met in 2004 reformed... performing a commissioned song written by Imogen Heap (yes Immie Heap) called Locusts - I was the band DJ - Mixing techno loops over the performance - one in a regular fashion - the other on a Vestax turned on reverse ;-).
Great fun - got to meet (in brief) Brian Eno, Rufus Wainwright, David Coulter (who worked very closely with us during the rehearsals) and Mary King. ALL amazing people -
Rainys Private Members Club, Feb 2007 - August 2007
Friday Night Resident - had some ups and downs with this venue - mainly cheesy requests from punters being the problem! After a few weeks the crowd realised what we (House Trained DJs) are about and got into the tunes we were playing out - dirty house, electro, trance and on occasion Old Skool (from early 90s).
Lido Complex ECHOS, Margate - June '07 - Private BDay - playing in this 750 capacity venue was a good experience, strong crowd...good atmosphere!
Club Caprice, Margate August '07 - October '07
DJ-ed every Friday and Saturday 11pm - 5am. Were under the control of a rather uneducated audience - playing all requests from 11-3am, before House Trained kicked in with quality dirty and electro house from 3am til close.
Private Booking, Thorleys Taverns - St Lawrence, Ramsgate, Kent, - 20th Sept '07
8pm-midnight - smashed the local scene with a lotta dirty house along with some funk and tech. Great audience - challenged to fill the pub with more than 50 people - we got over 100. Thanks goes out to HTDJs and sound engineers, the landlord and everyone who came... especially theleggy blonde ;-)
October 2007 - February 2008
Recently been involved with helping promote a hometown local venue in conjunction with Jamix Promotions ... Club Compass... Ramsgate Kent. After a couple of private bashes there, hard house mainly, the owners have renovated the venue, replacing windows with walls and revamping the decor to accommodate HTDJs and the crowd we regularly pull in.
Bar Roos, Margate, Kent - 2nd Feb 2008
Invited by Matisse Fontaine and Leon Vega to play an hour guest set alongside... great response, good beats... the locals liked it dirty; great guys to work with...hope another invite flies my way soon enough.
Loads of House parties and weddings / hotel [;-(] gigs to make some money. Well rounded in playing out - just looking for a suitable venue who allows us to play what we feel is the best in dance music only!

My Interests

Music, Politics, Anything you want to talk about really.

I'd like to meet:

WANT TO MEET... -----Mainly anyone who believes in a new and up and coming all round music loving DJ :-)and can maybe throw some work my way lol. Anyone who loves dance music, people who aren't ageist, too far up their own arse to realise they shouldn't judge by first impressions and generally snobbish in their approach to people.

I love music more than 99.9% of the goings on in my life - thank the Supreme Being for audio, air and ears...

Music:

Although PVD, Blank & Jones and Rank 1 are soley responsible for my initial addiction with TRANCE from the age of 12 -

I LOVE WITH A PASSION work by M.I.K.E. / Push / Plastic Boy / Virtua Trancer. He captures the magical element of electronic dance music and is so kind enough to print it on vinyl for us to buy ... How thoughtful.

Coming in as a joint fav. has gotta be Airwave - who has numerous aliases...
Love House Music as a general genre. DESPISE Salsa/Latin/Soulful house. Not a massive fan of funky house - the tech side appeals more. (i.e. the more intelligent side - you funking idiots) Own a few funktastic tunes - but only cos they were biggies.

Punchy kicks and warm basslines - that'll make me melt. Techno, Hardhouse, Commercial (the remixes usually), Progressive and general electronica. I can't express my sheer amazement at synthesisers - turning dirty electricity into a sound. Praise Dr Moog RIP. Hope you might share some of the same opinions, if not - oh well, I tried!

Movies:

Loads from sci fi to animated - and everything in between.

Television:

Dead enders - Simpsons - Futurama and the odd documentary

Books:

Not many - ones that are philisophical and challenge the way we view things in life - i.e. religion, relationships, life and culture and most importantly - ones we can learn from - be it a thesis, biography, etc...

Heroes:

My mum... the only one who's always been there and will hopefully remain to be for the decades to come. Love ya x
